 ú  (8)  Install the polyimide foam insulation (BMS 8-300) around the duct
 ú  using the steps that follow as a guide:
 ú  (a) Individual pieces of insulation may be used as required to
 ú  conform to the size and shape of a duct.
 ú  (b) Apply the insulation to within three inches of each end of the
 ú  duct outlet or flange and to within one inch of a spud.
 ú  (c) Butt the edges of the insulation together within a gap of 0.1
 ú  inch to an overlap of 0.25 inch.

 ú  (d) Wipe the outer surface of the insulation with the solvent and a
 ú  wiping cloth.
 ú  (e) Wrap the insulation around the duct with the foam side against
 ú  the duct.

 ú  (f) Bond the insulation to the duct if necessary to hold the
 ú  insulation in position prior to the tape application as
 ú  follows:
 ú  1) Use the instructions in Boeing Standard Overhaul Practices
 ú  Manual 20-50-12 (Boeing Process Specification 5010, Type
 ú  48) (BMS 5-30 adhesive).
 ú  2) A single coat of adhesive may be used on either one or both
 ú  of the surfaces to be bonded.
 ú  3) You may apply adhesive bond lines of up to two-inches wide
 ú  around the duct, but no two bond lines may be closer than
 ú  12-inches centerline to centerline.
 ú  4) You may bond the insulation to the duct with spot tack
 ú  bonds.
 ú  a) Do not use spot tack bonds that are closer than 12
 ú  linear inches to each other or spot bonds that are
 ú  larger than 2 inches in diameter.
 ú  (g) Make sure that the application of adhesive is within the area
 ú  to be covered by the insulation.

 ú  (9) Install the tape on the edges and seams of the insulation as
 ú  outlined in the steps that follow:
 ú  (a) Make sure the tape overlaps all the edges and seams of the
 ú  insulation by a minimum of 1-inch.
 ú  (b) Apply tape to within two-inches of each end of the duct outlet
 ú  or flange and in contact with any spud.
 ú  (c) Apply an additional circumferential 1-inch wide wrap of tape at
 ú  the end positions over the previous layer of tape.
 ú  (d) Apply the tape so that no insulation edge is exposed.
 ú  (e) Additional circumferentail wraps of one inch wide tape may be
 ú  applied over insulation and cover as required to secure the
 ú  insulation to the duct.

 ú  (10) Do this test of the repair:
 ú  (a) Supply pneumatic power (AMM 36-05-00/201).
 ú  (b) Set the L PACK switch on the P5-10 panel on the forward
 ú  overhead panel to ON.
 ú  (c) Make sure that the repair does not leak.
 ú  1) Small leaks are acceptable.
