 E. Install the Acoustical Panel on the Extension Ring

 (1)  For Acoustical Panels on the upper 180-Degrees of the extension ring, remove a circle of MA-25S approximately 0.50-inch (12.7 mm) in diameter from around the collar location.

 (2)  Install the acoustical panel as follows (Fig. 404):
 (a)  
Put the acoustical panel on the extension ring, and align the bolt holes.

 (b)  
Apply BMS 5-63 sealant to the threads of the bolts.

 (c)  
ENGINES WITH THE BONDED ACOUSTICAL PANEL;
 Install the eight bolts in the acoustical panel,

 (d)  
ENGINES WITH THE COMPRESSION MOLDED ACOUSTICAL PANELS; Install the 12 bolts in the acoustical panel.

 Do the procedure in CMM 78-31-33 Repair 2-1 to modify the outer ring segment to replace the bonded acoustic panel with the compression molded acoustic panel. The bonded acoustic panel uses 8 holes and the compression molded acoustic panel uses 12 holes. The compression molded panel comes with only two pilot holes. Four new holes in the outer ring segment must be drilled to install the compression molded panel.
 NOTE: Install the six long bolts at the aft location and
____ the six short bolts at the forward location.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CORRECT FASTENER COLLAR WITH THE
_______ APPLICABLE SEALANT. IF YOU USE MA-25S, YOU MUST USE AN ALUMINUM COLLAR (P/N BACC30AG6). IF YOU USE RTV560 OR RTV106, YOU MUST USE A STEEL OR TITANIUM FASTENER (P/N BACC30AB6SW OR BACC30A6SW). POSSIBLE CORROSION CAN OCCUR IF THESE MATERIALS ARE MIXED. DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
 (e)  Install a new collar on each bolt as follows: 1) If you will install the MA-25S insulation over the collars, use an aluminum collar (P/N BACC30AG6).
 2)  If you will use the RTV560 or RTV106 sealant (alternate method), use a steel or titanium collar (P/N's BACC30AB6SW or BACC30A6SW).

 (3)  For Acoustical Panels in the lower 180-Degrees of the extension ring, do these steps to seal the collars:
 (a)  
Seal the collars with BMS 5-63 sealant.

 (b)  
Apply the sealant BMS5-63 to the surfaces that touch adjacent panels.

 (4)  For Acoustical Panels in the upper 180-Degrees of the extension ring, do these steps to seal the collars:
 (a)  To seal the collars with MA-25S (Preferred Method), follow these steps: 1) Apply MA-25S insulation with fiber-filled topcoat and
 non-woven mat on the outer surface of the exstension ring. 2) Use a machine to mix a mixture of 10-15 percent by weight of the silica fibers in the RTV 560 topcoat material.
 3)  Use a spray gun to apply a 0.01 to 0.02 inch (0.25-0.51 mm) thick layer of spraycoat to the surface of the MA-25S insulation.
 NOTE:  To make the installation easier, add 25 to 50
____ percent by volume of naphtha to the mixture.
 4)  While the spraycoat is still wet, apply the non-woven Kevlar 49 mat to the wet surface as follows: a) Press the mat into the topcoat so that the mat is
 smoothly soaked in the fiber-filled RTV 560 topcoat.
 NOTE:____  The Kevlar 49 mat can be cut into strips and applied in position with 1/4 to 1/2 inch overlap to follow the contour of the assembly.
