The VSV's are approximately 2 degrees (0.2 inch) away
from the fully open position.
(g)
Remove the rig pin.
(h)
Operate the stator system to the closed position (actuator rod extended) (AMM 75-31-00/201).
(i)
Make sure the VSV indicator reads 35.4-37.2 degrees.
(j)
If the VSV's are not in these limits, go back to the rig check step for the VSV and continue.
(k)
Make a record of the VSV position.
(l)
If the VSV's stay out of these limits on the closed stop, examine the installation of the position transmitter.
(m)
AIRPLANES WITH CFM56-3B-1 ENGINES; AIRPLANES WITH CFM56-3B-2 ENGINES; Operate the VSV's to the fully open position.
(n)
AIRPLANES WITH CFM56-3C-1 ENGINES; Operate the VSV's to the rig position (rig pin holes aligned).

Move the VSV's to the closed position and remove the VSV actuation equipment (AMM 75-31-00/201).

_______ DUCT COWL AND THRUST REVERSER. IF YOU CLOSE THE FAN DUCT COWL AND THRUST REVERSER ON THE CABLE, DAMAGE TO THE CABLE WILL OCCUR.
(q) With the cable through the No. 3 latch, close the thrust
reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).

(5) Do a Dynamic Rigging Check of the VSV.
(a)
Make a record of both the temperature in the shade of the nose gear wheel well and the pressure at the location.
(b)
On the pilot's P5 overhead panel, make sure both the ENG
ANTI-ICE and BLEED switches are set to the OFF position.
(c)
Use the Power Plant Operation (Normal) procedure to start the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201).
(d)
At the maximum N2 motor speed, and before you supply the fuel and ignition, do the steps that follow: 1) Make sure the VSV's are in the closed position. 2) Make sure the VSV indicator reads 35.4-37.2 degrees.
(e)
Let the engine become stable at ground idle for 3 minutes.
(f)
Make note of the VSV position on the computer screen.
(g)
Use the Power Plant Operation (Normal) procedure to do an
engine shutdown (AMM 71-00-00/201).

(6) Adjust the VSV's.
(a)
Loosen the locking bolt for the VSV trimmer bracket (Fig.
506).
(b)
Adjust the adjustment screw for the VSV feedback to put the
VSV's in the given limits in the table that follows:
NOTE: One turn = 6 flats = 1.62 degrees at ground idle.
____ If you turn the adjustment screw clockwise (CW) while you look up at the head of the screw, VSV's will close. If you turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise (CCW) the VSV's will open.
When you open the VSV's, it is recommended not to open the stators to the fully open limit to decrease the engine acceleration time. The recommended target is 0.5 degrees from the open limit. Fig. 505 gives the acceleration targets.
