CAI is also turning its sights on the emerging
market of Vietnam, making a significant first
step by inking a memorandum of
understanding with the local government
authority to develop Phu Bai airport in Hue
province. According to official estimates, air
travel in Vietnam is expected to grow by 12
to 14 percent annually, until 2010.
Changi Airports International (CAI) is
intensifying its push into the Chinese market,
with a partnership with Shenzhen Airport
Group (SAG). This is the first joint venture
between SAG and a foreign company.
The entity – 49 percent owned by CAI and
51 percent owned by SAG, aims to invest
in and help operate regional airports
across China.
Tying up with a local player, such as SAG,
provides CAI with another platform to
establish a strong foothold in China. This
however, would not affect the airport deals
which CAI is currently undertaking on its
own in China. Ranked the fourth largest

development of the King Hussein
International Airport (KHIA) at Aqaba. The
contract was signed by Mr. Emad Fakhoury,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the
Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) and
Mr. Chow Kok Fong, Chief Executive Officer
of CAI at Cityscape in Dubai on October
18th, 2007.
The master plan has three major features.
First it is formulated to enable the airport to
be developed in a sustainable and cost
investments in various aviation related
businesses. This will represent a new source
of jobs and economic growth for this region
of Jordan.
The master plan will help to maximize the
airport’s potential to enhance its strategic role
as engine of growth for the thriving Aqaba
Special Economic Zone (ASEZ). ASEZ was
established in 2001 as a major economic
development initiative which is expected to
draw in US$6 billion of investments and the
creation of 70,000 jobs.

The newly set up Changi Airport Advisory
Group (CAAG) retains talented industry
veterans who have been involved in the
development and management of Changi
Airport, for both the Civil Aviation Authority
of Singapore (CAAS) and Changi Airports
International (CAI).
The members have among them, more than
a 100 years’ experience in airport
organisation, operations management and
route development.
The CAAG is chaired by CAAS Adviser, Mr.
Sim Kee Boon, an aviation veteran who
played a significant role in making Changi
into an international name. The CAAG
comprises Mr. Wong Woon Liong, Senior
Advisor & Chief Strategist (Airport
Development), Mr. Ho Beng Huat, Advisor
& Chief Specialist (Airport Management) and
Mr. Chiang Hai Eng, Advisor & Chief
Specialist (Aviation Operations) for Changi
Airport Advisory Group.
The key role of the advisory group will be
to help the global expansion of CAI by
exporting their expertise to CAI’s
key markets.
Mr. Liew Mun Leong, Chairman of CAAS
officially launched CAAG on 11th September
2007. In a speech addressing CAI and CAAS
staff, Mr. Liew said CAAG is one means to
harness and leverage on this internationally
scarce and precious resource. He said the
team will have free ranging roles to lead high
level strategic or operational teams.

Mr. Wong has developed a wide network
of contacts with many airport authorities
throughout the world during his 15-year
tenure as Director-General of the Civil
Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). Mr.
Wong is well known figure in the aviation
industry, having led Changi Airport
successfully for many years. His experience
and contacts are very valuable for Changi
to grow internationally as an air hub. Mr.
