Install the Slat Proximity Sensors No. 1, 3, 4 and 6

 (1)  
Install the slat proximity sensor to the bracket.

With the leading edge devices extended to the intermediate position, loosely install the slat proximity sensor at the specified locations (Fig. 401).

Adjust the slat proximity sensor:

 (a)  
Find the same color wires and make a splice.

 (b)  
Attach the wire bundles together to make a bundle.

 (c)  
Make sure the routing of the wires through the clamps is correct.

 (d)  
Use the shim laminations to adjust the slat proximity sensor.

 (e)  
Make sure there is a clearance of 0.14 |0.01 inch between the slat proximity sensor and the target.

Install the Slat Proximity Sensors No. 2 and 5

 (1)  
Install the slat proximity sensor in the support bracket.

Put one washer between the head of the slat proximity sensor and the bracket, and temporarily attach sensor to bracket with jamnut.

Temporarily attach the bracket and proximity sensor assembly to the structure.

 (4)  
Make sure the clearance (0.04-0.06 inch) between the sensor and the target is correct:

 (a)  
If the sensor/target clearance is less than 0.04 inch, install one more washer between the washer and the sensor head (bracket/sensor head location).

 (b)  
If the sensor/target clearance is more than 0.06 inch, move the washer from the bracket/sensor head location and install it between the jamnut and the bracket to decrease the clearance.

 (c)  
If sensor/target clearance is still more than 0.06 inch, adjust clearance with shims between the bracket and the wing airload rib until you get the correct clearance.

 NOTE: Attach shim to bracket with adhesive BMS 5010, Type 58.

 (d)  When the sensor/target clearance is correct, do the steps that follow: 1) Remove the assembly and apply one layer of primer BMS
 10-11, Type 1 to the shims. 2) Tighten the jamnut. 3) Install the lockwire from the jamnut to the nut (welded to
 the proximity sensor).

 4)  Attach the support bracket (with the slat proximity sensor) to the wing airload rib.

Do these steps if you install a new support bracket:

 (a)  
Manually put the support bracket against the wing airload rib.

 (b)  
Make sure the clearance between the slat proximity sensor and the target is 0.05 |0.01 inch: 1) Remove a lamination from the shims if it is necessary to

 get the correct clearance. 2) Bond the shim to the support bracket with the adhesive. 3) Do a check of the clearance between the slat proximity
 sensor and the target. 4) Adjust the shims if it is necessary to get a clearance of
 0.05 |0.01 inch between the slat proximity sensor and the target.
