Remove the nuts (64 and 65) and washers (66 and 70) which attach the W5 wire harness (44) to the studs.
(d)
Remove the bolt, clamp, and ground strap that are attached to the bracket on the housing of the fuel pump filter.
(e)
Remove the wire harness terminals from the studs.
(f)
Install the protection caps.
(g)
ENGINES PRE-PW-SB 73-161; Remove two bolts (51) which attach the bracket (63) to the differential pressure switch (50) for the fuel filter.
(h)
ENGINES POST-PW-SB 73-161; Disconnect the bracket (79): 1) Remove two bolts (51) which attach the bracket (79) to the
differential pressure switch (50) for the fuel filter.
(i)
Disconnect the tubes (28 and 34) and the fuel hose (36) from the fuel pump (11): 1) Remove the bolts (40) which attach the oil-cooler-inlet
fuel tube (34) to the fuel pump (11).
2) Remove the bolts (43) which attach the oil-cooler-outlet
fuel hose (36) to the fuel pump (11).
a) Pull the fuel hose (36) away from the fuel pump (11).
3) Disconnect the drain tube (28) on the fuel pump (11) from the elbow (29).
(j) Do the steps that follow if you will remove the fuel pump (11) and the FMU (6) as one unit: 1) Disconnect the two electrical connectors, W5P1 and W4P2 (7
and 7A), from the FMU (6). a) Install caps on the electrical connectors (7 and 7A). 2) Remove the bolt (5) which attaches the clamps (4) on the EEC wire harnesses to the support bracket.

3) Disconnect the supply tube (3) for the fuel distribution valve: a) Remove the bolt (16) and nut (17) which attach the
clamp (14) to the clamp (15).
NOTE: The clamp (15) is on the oil return tube for
____ the air/oil heat exchanger of the IDG.
b) Remove the bolt (4A) that attaches the clamp (3A).
c) ENGINES WITH THE SUPPLY TUBE (3) ATTACHED TO THE HPC BRACKET; Remove the bolt (16A) and the nut (17A) which attach the clamp (15A).
d) Disconnect the tube nuts (2) from the FMU adapter (54) and the adapter for the fuel flow transmitter. e) Install caps on the supply tube (3), the FMU adapter (54), and the adapter for the fuel flow transmitter. 4) Remove the bolts (55 and 56) which attach the bracket (57) to the FMU (6).

If you will not remove the fuel pump (11) and FMU (6) as one unit, remove the fuel metering unit (AMM 73-21-01/401).
(l)
To remove the fuel pump (11) easily, install the PWA 85989 handling fixture: 1) Attach the fixture to the fuel pump (11) with two bolts and
the handscrew.
(m)
Do the steps that follow to remove the fuel pump (11) or the fuel pump unit (11 and 6): 1) With the PWA 85862 torque adapter, remove the bolt (60)
which attaches the fuel pump (11) to the main gearbox at the 7 o'clock position.
2) With the PWA 86461 torque adapter, loosen the bolt at the 1 o'clock position which attaches the fuel pump (11) to the main gearbox.
3) With the PWA 85862 torque adapter, loosen the remaining bolts (60) which attach the fuel pump (11) to the main gearbox until the washers are clear of the flange.
4) Turn the fuel pump (11) clockwise (look from the front) to disengage the flange holes from the bolts (60).
