Prepare for the Rigging

Do the steps that follow to get access to the steering cables for the nose wheel steering system to do the rigging:
(a)
Turn the output lever on the lock release mechanism for the door actuator of the nose landing gear (Fig. 501A) slightly forward. This removes the spring load from the rod and permits the removal of the rod end bolt.
CAUTION: DO NOT PERMIT THE ROD TO HANG FROM THE DISCONNECTED FRONT
_______ END. THE LOAD ON THE ROD END THAT IS ATTACHED CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ROD END BEARING.
(b)
Remove the bolt that attaches the rod end. Hold up the control rod while you do this. This will not permit the rod end to hang down and put too much load on the rod end bearing at the end of the rod that is attached.
(c)
Move the disconnected end of the rod up to be clear of the access panel 115AL (AMM 06-41-00/201).
(d)
Make sure the rod is held in this position.
(e)
Remove the access panel 115AL.
F.
Do the Rigging of the NWS System
(1)
Disconnect the torsion links (44 and 42) (AMM 32-21-09/401).
(2)
Lift the airplane nose on jacks (AMM 07-11-02/201).

Turn the piston position quadrant (46) counterclockwise against the upstop (38) on the bracket (39). This will put the system for the nose wheel steering in the position to engage the rudder pedal steering (ground mode).

Put the rig pin NS3 in the rig pin hole (55, View D, Fig. 502) in the summing mechanism. If the rig pin has a free fit, go to step (5). If the rig pin does not have a free fit, do the sixteen steps that follow:
(a)
Disconnect the control rod for the steering input (51, View C, Fig. 502) from the input lever for the metering valve (53).
(b)
Remove the lockwire from the tensioner for the steering link cable (28, View C, Fig. 501).
(c)
Put the rig pin NS3 in the rig pin hole (55, View D, Fig. 502) in the summing mechanism.
(d)
Put the rig pin NS1 in the rig pin hole (15) in the captain's forward quadrant (14, Fig. 501, View A-A).
(e)
Make sure the pointer on the tiller indicator (32, Detail D) is in the center.
(f)
Put the rig pin for the rudder R2 in the rig pin hole (18, View B, Fig. 501) in the left forward quadrant (19).
(g)
Put the rig pin NS2 in the rig pin hole (59, Detail C) in the steering quadrant (60).
