daily number of messages received

The CFMU has recently conducted a
client satisfaction survey with respect to
the RPL/RCT service but the results are
not yet available. The Flight Data
Operations Division is actively examining
ways of improving the attractiveness and
flexibility of this service to our clients.
The introduction of Ukraine to CFMU
operations provided RPL with 16 new
clients and added a requirement for the
provision of Bulk Output to the five
Ukrainian ACCs.
A steady increase in the number of
routes available in the route catalogue
was recorded during 2002. In addition to
providing routes for ATFM re-routings,
the catalogue is also extensively used by
several airlines for verifying their own
route databases. The average number of
routes available increased from approximately
20,000 in January to over 27,000
by December.
Usage of the IFPS test system (IFPUV)
showed a steady increase (average
number of queries per day rose from
1,400 to 2,400). This facility has been
available via the normal communications
channels (AFTN, SITA) and via public
Internet since late 2001. Many aircraft
operators use this tool (increasingly via
Internet) to validate both individual flight
plan occurrences and company route
catalogues prior to each AIRAC data
cycle. The tool forms an increasingly
important part of the flight planning
assistance services provided
by the CFMU and together with other
services will be significantly developed
in the coming years.

CFMU SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT
In February 2002, ETFMS entered full
operational use, initially with surveillance
data provided by France, the
United Kingdom and the Maastricht
Upper Area Control Centre. By the end
of 2002, surveillance data from
Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, the
Netherlands, Norway (Oslo ACC),
Slovenia and Switzerland had been
added and were used operationally.
Operational evaluation has started for
the validation of surveillance data from
the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy,
Portugal and Slovakia.
During 2002, the migration of remote
client access to a higher performance
and more cost-effective network was
completed for ATS sites and aircraft
operators. Improvements in the CFMU
Internet application and supporting
infrastructure resulted in a rapid spread
amongst CFMU clients: at the end of
November 2002 there were 106 air
traffic service sites and over 220 aircraft
operator sites connected through
the dedicated network and more than
500 aircraft operators sites connected
via the Internet, which represents a total
of 1,630 remote users.
Airspace data operations
The CFMU maintains a database
containing comprehensive details of the
air traffic services organisation for the
CFMU area and its surroundings
(Environment Database, ENV).
It provides data for use by all the CFMU
systems. The accuracy and effectiveness
of these systems depend, to a large
extent, on the accuracy and consistency
of the air traffic services system data
managed in the ENV system.
