incoming signals. The antenna is a notch antenna. It is a length of
U-shaped fiberglass dielectric material sealed within the leading edge of
the vertical stabilizer. The feed line from the antenna coupler is
connected to a point on the metallic portion of the antenna. The antenna
design allows the coupler to match the antenna impedance to the
transmitters impedance of 50 ohms.

locations.3-phase, 115 volt, 400Hz, ac circuit breakers supply power to
the HF communication system. They are on the left and right load control
centers. HF-1 circuit breaker is on the P18 panel; HF-2 circuit breaker is
on P6 panel. The HF control panel is located on the aft electronics
control panel (P8). The transceivers are located on the electronic
equipment rack E5-2. The antenna couplers are in the vertical stabilizer.

They are accessible from the left and right side of the lower section of the
vertical stabilizer. The HF antenna, feed line and RF shield are inside of
the vertical stabilizer.

[1] The flight deck aural warning system provides characteristic audio
signals to alert the flight crew to : an abnormal takeoff condition, landing
condition, autopilot disengage, pressurization condition (cabin altitude
warning ), mach airspeed condition, an engine fire, APU fire, wheel well
fire, crew calls and SELCAL alert. Certain explanations for SELCAL
are in the bracket. (Airline radio networks provide radio communication
between airline ground facilities and airplanes enroute. Since the number
