 E. Procedure

 (1)  Make sure the vent opening for the drain line muffler is clear of debris.
 NOTE: A blocked vent opening will prevent the proper flow of air
____
 from the lavatory.

 (2)  Do these steps, if the blockage is in the galley drain line and the drain line strainer is installed below the sink:
 (a)  
Remove, examine and clean the strainer, as necessary.

 (b)  
Examine the drain line between the strainer and the sink drain fitting for blockage.

 (c)  
If there is blockage in the drain line, remove it with a snake or by disassembling the drain line sections if applicable.

 (d)  
If the drain line is serviceable, continue with procedure 1, 2, 3, or 4, if it is applicable. 1) When you do procedures 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, follow these steps:

 a) Do not perform these procedures from the sink drain. b) Perform the procedures from the drain below the sink (downstream). c) If the sink drain has a drain line strainer, do not
 -use pressurized water,
 -insert the snake or
 -use alkaline detergent on the strainer.

 (3)  Procedure 1
 (a)  
Apply water pressure (do not exceed 35 psi) at the head of each drain line (below the sink and below the strainers)."

 (b)  
Make sure that all the drains are blocked to prevent unwanted water flow while you apply water pressure.

 (4)  Procedure 2
 (a)  Put the snake in the drain line. 1) Make sure you do not cause damage to the connections.
 NOTE: Do not use force on the snake through the bends.
____ Use a push and pull movement to move the snake through the bends.

 (5)  Procedure 3
 (a) If the lines drain slowly, use a suitable cleaner, Altrex or Acetic Acid, to remove the blockage from the drain line.
 NOTE: Altrex is a stronger solution than Acetic Acid.

 (b)  If you use the Altrex solution, mix 8 ounces of the Altrex for each gallon of hot water.
 NOTE: Make 1-2 gallons of Altrex solution.
____
 (c)  
If you use acetic acid, do these steps: 1) Put 1-2 gallons of acetic acid in a container. 2) Apply heat at 160°F (71°C) to the 1-2 gallons of acetic

 acid.

 (d)  
Put a suitable plug on the drain mast. (Tool #C38001-1 preferred, #A38011-1,-2 and #B21004-91 as alternatives.)

 (e)  
Remove the floor mat retainers to get access to the entry door sill drains.

 WARNING: OBEY THE VENDOR SAFETY PROCEDURES FOR THE ALKALINE
_______ CLEANER. CONTACT WITH THE SKIN OR EYES MAY CAUSE IRRITATION OR BURNS.
 CAUTION: DO NOT GET THE DRAIN CLEANER SOLUTION ON THE AIRPLANE.
_______ THE DRAIN CLEANER SOLUTION ON THE SURFACES AROUND THE DRAINS CAN CAUSE CORROSION.
 (f)  
If the drain line has a strainer, put the drain cleaner solution in the drain line downstream of the strainer.

 (g)  
Put a sufficient quantity of the drain cleaner solution in each of the sill drains. Make sure the solution level is not more than 1 inch from the top of each of the door sill drains.

 (h)  
Put a suitable plug into each of the sill drain openings.

 (i)  
Put a sufficient quantity of the drain cleaner solution in each of the lavatory and galley sinks. Make sure the solution level is not more than 1 inch from the bottom of each of the lavatory and galley sinks.

 (j)  
Make sure there are no leaks from the drain masts or the sill drains.

 (k)  
Stop for one hour to permit the drain cleaner solution to remove blockage.
