Nicks, dents, erosion and scratches on the airfoil center panel. 1) No maximum number of erosion and scratches. 2) No maximum number of nicks and dents if the following
limits are obeyed: a) The damage is not cracked on the opposite side of the blade.
(l)
Platforms of blades which lock. 1) Clearance between the blade platforms is permitted. 2) Clearance is not permitted between the blade locks of the
two platforms located between the blade locks. 3) There is no maximum limit to the size and quantity of
distortions on a blade. 4) Cracks in the material are not serviceable. 5) Shingling is not serviceable.
(m) Blade locks for the stages 4-9 blades.
1) Crack or looseness in blade locks: a) One lock with a crack is permitted. b) A maximum service extension of 10 cycles or 25 hours is
permitted if two locks are cracked. c) One or two loose locks are not serviceable.
NOTE: To examine the looseness, use a bent length of
____ heavy gage wire to move the blade lock. Monitor the movement through the borescope.
d) A maximum service extension of 25 cycles or 100 hours is permitted if one lock is loose.
(n)
Material on blades. 1) No maximum amount of material which is found on the blades.
(o)
The rub coat at the stator flow path:
NOTE: The area adjacent to the borescope ports is the only rub
____
coat you can examine.
1) No maximum limit of areas where the rub coat is gone. 2) No maximum number of cracks which are crazed.

(8) On the S1 (S2 thru S6 borescope plugs), do these steps to install the borescope plugs:
(a)
Apply a light layer of graphite grease (CP2101) to the plug threads and to the mating surfaces.
(b)
Install the plugs in the compressor borescope ports.
(c)
Tighten the plug to 57-63 pound-inches (6.3-7.0 Newton meter).
(d)
Put a lockwire on the plugs.

(9) Before you install the S7, S8 and S9 borescope plugs, make sure the inner borescope port is open.
(a) To make sure, put an aluminum rod, that is tapered, in the borescope port (Fig.605).

(10) Do these steps to install the S7, S8 and S9 borescope plugs:
(a) Apply a light layer of graphite grease (CP2101) or Never Seez (CP2619) to the plug threads and to the mating surfaces.
CAUTION: IF YOU DO NOT ENGAGE THE INNER CAP OF THE BORESCOPE PLUG
_______ CORRECTLY, IT WILL MOVE THE COMPRESSOR REAR CASE AS YOU TIGHTEN THE OUTER CAP. THIS WILL PREVENT FREE MOVEMENT OF THE COMPRESSOR ROTOR. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(b) Install the plug in the applicable borescope port. 1) Make sure the inner liner boss touches the face of the inner plug. 2) Tighten the inner plug to 90-100 pound-inches
(10.2-11.3 Newton meters). 3) Loosen the inner plug by one-half turn. 4) Tighten the inner plug again to 15-20 pound-inches
(1.7-2.3 Newton meters).
(c) Compress the plug spring and tighten the outer plug with your hand.
NOTE: If the inner plug is correctly engaged and the
____ threads are not damaged, then the outer plug will engage when you tighten it with your hand.
(d) Tighten the outer plug to 57-63 pound-inches (6.3-7.0 Newton meters). 1) Attach all three outer plugs together with a lockwire.
