Examine the open tank for unwanted objects, for example tools, broken pieces of metal, and other unwanted material.

Clean the open tank as necessary, then continue with the access panel installation.

Make sure that you install all the rib and midspar access doors.

Remove the rubber cover from the access opening.

Clean these surfaces with a clean lint-free cloth moist with solvent:
(a)
Access door opening where the access door will seal
(b)
Access panel surface where the access door will seal
(c)
Clamp ring.

Examine the inner wing surface and the wing surface near the access panel opening for corrosion.

If you find corrosion, refer to the Structural Repair Manual (SRM 57-20-01).

(7) Make sure the aluminum gasket is serviceable.
NOTE: If the gasket has torn fastener holes, is extended out of
____ shape, or has more than 10% of the strands broken through the thickness of the gasket in one area, the gasket is not serviceable.

If the gasket is not serviceable, replace the gasket as follows:
(a)
Examine the container of the new gasket to find the manufacture date of the gasket.
(b)
If the gasket if more than five years old, do these steps before you install the gasket: 1) Remove the grease from the gasket. 2) Reimpregnate the gasket with anticorrosion grease,
MIL-G-25537.
(c)
Put the tray that contains the new gasket on a flat surface.
NOTE: Make sure the gasket is up.

Remove the paper cover from the tray.
(e)
Since the hole locations are not symmetrical, carefully put the clamp ring on the gasket (the countersunk end of the holes face up).
