Although the manual is
supplemented by statutory
instructions and orders, not all of
them will be mentioned. It doesn't
mean that you should ignore those
that aren't, but being acquainted with
all regulations, orders and
instructions issued by whoever is all
part of your job. Naturally,
references to publications mean the
current editions, as amended. When
mentioned in the Ops Manual, they
acquire the same legal force.
There will be several copies of the
Manual around, the numbers issued
differing with the size of the
Company, but the typical
distribution list below should be
regarded as a minimum; each aircraft
will have its own copy.

With significant differences in
equipment and procedures between
types, SOPs, which may be in the
Ops Manual, must show
registrations of applicable aircraft. If
the information is in another
publication on board, it need not be
repeated. SOPs must include:
General
TOC, effective pages, amendments,
preamble, communications, crew coordination,
use of check lists,
standard briefings and calls.
Normal Procedures
Weight and balance, ramp
procedures, battery/APU starts, taxi,
take-off and climb, cruise, descent,
approaches (IFR, visual, VFR and
circling as applicable), landing,
missed approach and balked
landings, stall recovery, refuelling
with people on board, on-board
navigation and alerting aids and
check lists.
Abnormal and Emergency Procedures
Emergency landing/ditching—with
and without time to prepare,
incapacitation two communication
rule, bomb threat and hijacking,

Must have a table of contents, list of
effective pages, amending
procedures, preamble, identification
of the aeroplane by type and
registration, and operating
procedures and limitations that are
not less restrictive than those in the
flight manual and CARs.
CVFR
Controlled VFR clearance is
obtained by VFR aircraft before
entering Class B airspace, after
which, they behave in all respects the
same as IFR aircraft, except with
respect to IFR weather, which they
must avoid, if necessary by leaving
the airspace by direction or descent.
Alternate Aerodromes -
602.122
Unless otherwise authorized under
an AOC, you must nominate a
suitable alternative destination in
your IFR flight plan or itinerary,
with the ceiling and visibility at or
above the minima in the Canada Air
Pilot at the ETA. This ensures you
