A. Repair of the Vapor Seal Membrane
(1) Inspect the installed Vapor Seal and decide of which material it is made
NOTE : If the damaged length is greater then 127 mm (5.0000 in.)
____ replace the vapor seal.
NOTE : All materials meet the same specifications but are of
____ different chemical nature. Make sure that the patch is made of:
-
3 NX 1 R20 material to repair vapor seal membrane made of 3 V1 R20;
-
3 NX 1 R20 material to repair vapor seal membrane made of 3 V1 R20A;
-
3 NX 1 R20 material to repair vapor seal membrane made of 3 NX 1 R20;
-865 material to repair vapor seal membrane made of 865
material. It is important to achieve a correct repair of the vapor seal membrane.
(a) Identification of vapor seal material 3 V1 R20 (manufacturer AERAZUR or SUPERFLEXIT) and 3 V1 R20A (manufacturer AERAZUR).
1_ 3 VI R20 and 3 V1 R20A are made of glasscloth impregnated with
epichlorydrin mounted on Tedlar PVF.
2_ 3 V1 R20 and 3 V1 R20A have a glazy aspect on the Tedlar face
while the epichlorhydrin face has a woven appearence.

(c)
Identification of vapor seal material 865 fabric (manufacturer JEHIER).
1_ 3 NX1 R20 is made of nomex impregnated with epichlorhydrin
mounted Tedlar PVF.
2_ 3 NX1 R20 has a glazy aspect on Tedlar face while the
epichlorhydrin face has a woven appearance.
1 865 fabric is a nomex fabric with one face coated with Viton.

2 The aspect is mat.

(2) Repair of the vapor seal: material 3 V1 R20, 3 V1 R20A and 3 NX1 R20
(a)
Clean the vapor seal repair area using CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-003).
(b)
On the damaged vapor seal: 1 Cut out the damaged part of the vapor seal to form a circle or
_ rectangle.
2 Mark out a border of 30 mm (1.1811 in.) round the repair
_ cut-out in the vapor seal.
3 Prepare a patch of repair material (3 NX1 R20) to match the
_ size of the marked out repair area on the vapor seal.
4 Lightly rub the two repair surfaces to be joined using fine
_ emery cloth.
5 Clean the patch and the vapor seal again using Material No.
_ 11-003.
(c) Adhesive preparation. 1 Thoroughly mix the BONDING AND ADHESIVE COMPOUNDS (Material
_ No. 08-011), by weight, 100 parts CEMENT S-707 to 5 parts HARDENER R.
NOTE : The application life of the adhesive compound is
____ approx. 2 hours.

(d) Repair NOTE : The Tedlar face of the patch (colored grey) must be joined
____
to the epichlorhydrin face of the vapor seal (colored
black).
1_ Using a fine brush, apply the prepared adhesive compound
Material No. 08-011 to the joint faces of the patch and the
vapor seal.
2_ Allow the adhesive compound to dry for 10 minutes, then apply
a second coat of the adhesive compound.
3_ Allow the second coat to dry until it is no longer tacky.
4_ Fix the patch to the vapor seal precisely over the prepared
repair area. Press the patch lightly into place with your
finger tips to avoid the formation of air pockets between the
joint faces.
5_ Apply adhesive compound Material No. 08-011 round the repair
contour.
