A. Intercell transfer valve 27QM(29QM), 28QM(30QM)
The intercell transfer valve has:
-
a housing
-
a ball valve
-
a valve spindle
-two end retainers. The ball valve is in the housing and is kept in position by the two end retainers. One of the end retainers has four threaded holes for installation to the RIB 15. The ball valve has a master key-way that engages the valve spindle, and a 38.1 mm (1.5 in.) hole to allow fuel through when open. The valve spindle has splines at one end for installation of the related drive shaft 70QM(72QM) and 71QM(73QM).
B. Intercell-transfer-valve drive shaft 70QM(72QM), 71QM(73QM)
The intercell-transfer-valve drive shaft has:
-
a drive shaft
-
a mounting plate
-an actuator mounting
-a bearing. The drive shaft is in three pieces that are connected by two universal joints. The universal joints permit lateral movement of the drive shaft in its installed position. One end of the drive shaft has internal splines that engage the splines of the valve spindle of the of the intercell transfer valve. The other end of the drive shaft has a master key-way to engage the intercell-transfer-valve actuator. The mounting plate is on the drive shaft and attaches to the inner face of the related fuel tank. The actuator mounting is also on the drive shaft, but attaches to the outer face of the related fuel tank. The mounting plate and the actuator mounting are connected through the tank wall by studs and nuts. The actuator mounting has a flange for installation of the intercell-transfer-valve actuator 9QP(10QP), 11QP(12QP).

C. Intercell-transfer-valve actuator 9QP(10QP), 11QP(12QP) The intercell-transfer-valve actuator has an electrical motor that drives a differential gear. The differential gear engages a drive spindle that has a master key-way to engage the intercell-transfer-valve drive shaft. One operation of the electrical motor will turn the ball valve through 90 deg. to open and close the valve. Limit switches in the actuator control this 90 deg. movement and set the electrical circuit for the next operation. A V-band clamp 76QM(77QM), 78QM(79QM) attaches the actuator to the flange of the actuator mounting of the drive shaft. A location dowel makes sure that the actuator engages the actuator mounting correctly. The actuator has a see/feel indicator. The indicator gives the valve position, without removal of the actuator or entry to the fuel tank.

A. Operation/control The intercell transfer system is operated and controlled automatically by the FQIC and the FLSCU. To operate the system it is necessary to have:
-
the 28VDC BUS 2 206PP and the 28VDC ESS SHED BUS 801PP energized
-
the circuit breakers 1QP, 2QP, 3QP, 4QP, 1QT and 2QT closed. At the start of a normal refuel procedure (Ref. 12-11-28) the four intercell transfer valves will be open. When one of the two low level sensors 15QJ1/15QJ2 (Ref. 28-46-00) becomes wet, the FLSCU will send a close signal to the two actuators 9QP and 10QP. When one of the two low level sensors 16QJ1/16QJ2 (Ref. 28-46-00) becomes wet, the FLSCU will send a close signal to the two actuators 11QP and 12QP. The wing tanks are then refueled in the sequence; outer cells first followed by the inner cells.
