 E. Adjustment of the Fan Cowl Doors
 (1) Adjust the fan cowl door latches one at a time.

 (a) Turn the nut in the keeper assembly, on the right fan cowl, with a 5/32 inch (4 mm) hex wrench.

 (b) Each 45 deg. turn of the nut will cause the clevis to extend or retract 0.005 inch (0.127 mm).

 (c) Adjust the latches so that a force of 15 to 25 lbf (6.8 to 11.34 Kgs.) is required to close the latch.

 (d) Measure the force required to close the latch. Put the push-pull gage at the end of the latch handle to measure the force.

 (2) Measure the distance between the fan cowl doors at the latch interfaces. Two locations on each latch.

 (3) Measure the distance between the retainer (20) and the keeper housing.

 (4) Measure the distance between the retainer (35) and the keeper housing.

 (5) Make a note of the 6 measurements, two at each latch. NOTE : The distance between the doors may get smaller from the front

____ to rear if the distance is within the specified range.

 (1) Open the forward latch. Make sure the other latches are engaged.

 (2) Adjust the forward fan cowl latch, as follows:

 (a) Turn the nut in the keeper assembly, on the right fan cowl, with a 5/32 inch (4 mm) hex wrench.

 (b) Each 45 deg. turn of the nut will cause the clevis to extend or retract 0.005 inch (0.127 mm).

 (c) Adjust the latches so that a force between 40 and 50 Lbs (18.2 and 22.7 mdaN) is required to close the latch.

 NOTE : When you adjust a latch, make sure the other two latches

 are engaged.

 (d) Measure the force required to close the latch. Put the push-pull gage at the end of the latch handle to measure the force.

 (e) Make sure that the shim retainers (20) and (35) fully touch the keeper housing.

 (3) Do step (2) again for the center and aft fan cowl door latches.
R (4) Measure the step mismatch of the fan cowl left and right door at the R three latch areas with the doors closed (Ref. Fig. 501/TASK 71-13-00-991-301, Detail D.)
 (a) The maximum step mismatch permitted between the left and right fan cowl at the three latch areas is plus or minus 0.080 in.
 (2.03 mm).
 (5) Measure the step mismatch of the fan cowl doors along their full length (from leading to trailing edges). (Ref. Fig. 501/TASK 71-13-00-991-301, Detail F.)
