2. Turnbuckle Locking Clips Removal (Fig. 401)________________________________
A. Procedure

(1) Remove the locking clips:
(a)
Twist the locking clip and force the locking hook out of the hole in the center of the turnbuckle barrel.
(b)
Move the locking clip out from the turnbuckle slot.

3. Turnbuckle Locking Clips Installation (Fig. 401)_____________________________________
A. Procedure

(1) Install the locking clips:
CAUTION:_______DO NOT USE TURNBUCKLE LOCKING CLIPS AGAIN. IF THEY ARE USED AGAIN, THE RISK OF FAILURE INCREASES.
(a)
Tighten the turnbuckle until not more than three threads are out of the barrel and the cable tension is correct.
(b)
Align the slot in the barrel and cable terminal.
(c)
Install the straight end of the locking clip into the aligned slot.
(d)
Put the locking clip hook over the hole in the center of the turnbuckle. Put the hook into the hole.
(e)
Push the shoulder to engage the hook in the turnbuckle.

(f) Do the last four steps again to lock the second terminal.
NOTE: You can install the locking clips in the same side or
____ the opposite side of the turnbuckle holes.
(g)
To make sure the two locking clips are correctly installed, turn the turnbuckle a small distance.
(h)
Visually examine the locking clip to make sure the hook is engaged in the turnbuckle.

4. Install the Lockwire (alternate method to locking clips) (Fig 402)

A. Consumable Materials
(1) C00308 Cable Corrosion Preventative Compound - MIL-C-11796B Class 3
B. Procedure

(1) Install the lockwire:
(a)
Apply a thin coat of corrosion preventative compound to barrel and cable terminals.
(b)
Engage turnbuckle barrel equally with cable terminals and turn barrel until not more than three threads are exposed outside the barrel and the proper cable tension is reached.
(c)
Insert correct diameter stainless steel soft annealed wire into either cable terminal. Use .024 for 1/16" cable, .031 for 3/32" or 1/8", and .043 for 5/32" thru 5/16" cable.
(d)
Twist wire.
NOTE: When twisting wire, do not use any tool which might nick
____
the wire.
(e)
Insert ends of wire through opposite holes in barrel. Pull wire through. If tool is used, apply only on ends of wire.
(f)
Twist wire down to hole in terminal, insert end of one wire in hole, pull through and twist ends together. Cut off length in excess of 5/8" of twisted ends.
