D.  Prepare to Remove the Shaft Assembly for the Modulation Panel
 S 014-001
 (1)  
Remove the modulation panel from the ram air inlet
 (Ref 21-52-41/401).

 S 014-002

 (2)
Disconnect the rod assembly from the arm assembly (Fig. 401).

 (3)  
Loosen the turnbuckles on the cables until there is no tension in the cables.

 E.  Remove the Shaft Assembly for the Modulation Panel
 S 024-005
 (1)  Do these steps to remove the shaft assembly for the modulation panel (Fig./401):
 (a)  Remove the three bolts which attach the shaft support assembly to the structure.

 (b)  
Remove the support from the end of the shaft.

 (c)  
Remove the cables from the modulation panel quadrant.

 (d)  
Do the steps that follow to remove the quadrant from the shaft: 1) Cut the lockwire on the spring pins. 2) Push the spring pins out of the quadrant shaft. 3) Remove the quadrant from the shaft.

 (e)  
Remove the lower support.

 NOTE: When the lower support moves away from the
____ structure, the shaft will fall with it. This will disconnect the shaft from the upper support.
 (f)  Put the deflector shaft assembly at an angle and remove it.

 3. Install the Ram Air Modulation Panel Shaft Assembly

 C. Install the Shaft Assembly for the Modulation Panel
 S 424-008
 (1)  Do the steps that follow to install the shaft assembly (Fig. 401):
 (a)  Remove the modulation panel quadrant from the shaft assembly.
 NOTE: Make sure you make a note of the position of the
____ quadrant on the shaft.
 (b)  
Install the quadrant end of the shaft assembly into the hole in the lower part of the structure.

 (c)  
Move the shaft assembly up and put the top end of the shaft assembly into the upper support.

 (d)  
Put the lower support in the correct position.

 NOTE: Do not install the nuts and the bolts.

 (e)  
Install the cam link on the shaft.

 (f)  
Install the torsion spring on the shaft.

 (g)  
Install the arm assembly on the shaft.

 (h)  
Install the quadrant on the shaft.

 (i)  
Put the spring pins in the primer.

 (j)  
Install the pins in the holes that go through the quadrant and the shaft.

 (k)  
Install lockwire on the pins.

 (l)  
Put the cables on the quadrant and install the cotter pins.

 (m)  
Put the shaft support assembly for the deflector door in the correct position on the structure. 1) Install the bolts and the nuts.

 NOTE: Tighten the nuts with your fingers.

 (n)  
Tighten all the bolts and the nuts in the lower support and the shaft support assembly for the deflector door.
