 C.  The TO/GA switches are positioned to operate with a finger tip while the hand is on the throttle lever. Pressing either switch activates the takeoff or go-around mode depending on the mode interlock requirements of both A/T and DFCS.
 6.  AIRPLANES WITHOUT EFIS; Flight Mode Annunciator (FMA)_____________________________
 A.  A Flight Mode Annunciator (FMA) is provided for each pilot to indicate the operating mode of the Autothrottle, Autopilot, and Flight Management System. The captain's FMA is located in the upper right corner of the P-1 panel, and the first officer's FMA is located in the upper left corner of the P-3 panel.
 B.  The Flight Mode Annunciator is comprised of 19 prismatic annunciators, three warning lights with push-to-reset features, and a test switch.
 C.  Four of the prismatic annunciators are provided to indicate the Autothrottle mode of operation. Two prism faces are engraved with a mode legend, and the third face is blank (black). The blank face is in view when the annunciator is de-energized. A separate solenoid is provided to rotate the prism to display one of the engraved faces. Each solenoid is energized by a mode logic discrete ground. Each prism is illuminated by foreground lighting. The legends engraved on each prism are shown in Fig. 1.
 D.  The A/T warning light flashes when the Autothrottle is disengaged as the result of an invalid condition. The warning light is reset by pressing the A/T warning light on either FMA, or by pressing an A/T disengage switch. The A/T warning light illuminates steadily red when the Autothrottle is in BITE.
 E.  The TEST switch is a three-position (1-normal-2) switch, spring-loaded to the normal position. Set the switch to position-1, and each prism is driven to display the upper legend. With the switch in position-2, the lower legends are diplayed. Also, the A/T warning light illuminates steady, amber in position-1 and red in position-2.

 7.  AIRPLANES WITH EFIS; Autoflight Status Annunciator

 A.  An Autoflight Status Annunciator is provided for each pilot for warning indication of disengagement of the Autopilot, the Autothrottle, or the Flight Management Computer system. The captain's Autoflight Status Annunciator is located in the upper right corner of the P1 panel, and the first officer's is located in the upper left corner of the P3 panel.
 B.  The Autoflight Status Annunciator comprised of three warning lights with push-to-reset features and a test switch.
 C.  The A/T warning light flashes whenever the Autothrottle is disengaged. The warning light is reset by pressing the A/T warning light on either Autoflight Status Annunciator, or by pressing an A/T disengage switch. The A/T warning light illuminates steady red when the Autothrottle is in BITE.
 D.  The test switch is a three position switch, spring loaded to the normal position. The A/T warning light illuminates steady amber in position "1" and steady red in position "2".
 8.  AIRPLANES WITHOUT EFIS; ADI Fast/Slow Indicators

 A.  The fast/slow indicators provide the pilot with a speed command to follow when manually adjusting engine thrust for a selected airspeed; or provides the pilot with a monitor of the A/T operation when the Autothrottle is in the speed mode.
 B.  The fast/slow pointer is located on the left side of each ADI. It is a meter-type movement, with the pointer positioned horizontally. Fast and slow legends are provided, along with calibration scale representing |10 knots speed error.
 C.  The fast/slow pointer is spring-loaded to center scale. A bi-polar dc signal from the autothrottle drives the pointer in the appropriate direction, positive-fast and negative-slow. When the speed command function is not enabled, a dc bias is provided to bias the pointer out of view in the fast direction.
 D.  When a speed command signal from the autothrottle drives the pointer in the fast direction, it indicates that the airspeed is too fast and that the throttles should be retarded.
 E.  A speed failure flag is in view, covering the fast/slow scale, when the system is invalid or power is removed from the Autothrottle. As long as the speed command function of the Autothrottle is valid, the speed flag is retracted.
