 5.  Access Panel No. 14 Installation (Fig. 401)________________________________
 A. General
 (1)  The No.14 access panels, 65C38139-1/-2, have a flame arrestor/vent scoop installed on them. The No. 13 access panels 65C15617-2 have a pressure relief valve installed on them.

 (2)  The No. 14 surge tank access panels with the flame arrestor/vent scoop must be installed with the No. 13 surge tank access panels with the pressure relief valve. If the flame arrestor becomes clogged, and there is no pressure relief valve, the wing can be damaged by the pressure differences.

Examine the open tank for unwanted objects, for example tools, broken pieces of metal, and other unwanted material.

Clean the open tank, if it is necessary, then continue the access panel installation.

Examine the screen at the top of the air vent stack for unwanted particles and blocked holes.

Clean the screen if it is necessary.

 (a) Prepare a weak solution of the water and the detergent.

Clean the air vent stack in the solution.

 (c)  
Dry the air vent stack with the air gun.

Clean the surfaces near the access panel opening with a clean, lint-free cloth moist with solvent.

Clean the surfaces of the access panel which will touch the airplane skin with a clean, lint-free cloth moist with solvent.

Make sure the phenolic seal ring gasket is serviceable.

 (a)  
Be specially careful to examine the condition of the molded seal ring inserts.

 (b)  
Replace the gasket if its condition is unsatisfactory or if you are not sure of its condition.

 F. Install Fuel Tank Access Panel No. 14
 S 434-041
 (1)  Do these steps to install the phenolic seal ring gasket:
 (a)  
Put the phenolic seal ring gasket on the outer flange of the access panel.

 (b)  
Make sure that the mounting screw holes in the panel and the gasket align in all positions.

 (c)  
Put some mounting screws into the mounting screw holes to hold the gasket in the correct position.

 NOTE: The mounting screw holes in the access panel are not
____
 symmetrically spaced.

 S 424-042
 (2)  Do these steps to install the access panel:
 (a)  
Put the air vent stack through the hole in the wing.

 (b)  
Align the mounting screw holes on the access panel with the correct holes in the opening of the access panel.
