Remove the bad sealant (unless you make a decision to lift the seal plane).

Remove the precoat from the repair area.

 (e)  
Remove the corrosion from the repair area if there is some corrosion.

 (f)  
Put alodine on the repair area if the alodine metal surface layer has damage or if there is no surface layer.

 (g)  
Apply the sealant to these types of repair areas:

 NOTE: Use only the applicable procedure.

 1) Apply fillet seals to the structure or to fasteners.
 2) Apply injection seals.
 3) Apply prepack seals.
 4) Apply mating surface seals.
 5) Lift the seal plane (an alternative repair procedure for

 leaks in injection seals, mating surfaces, and prepack surfaces).
 6) Repair fasteners with metal seal covers.It is necessary to use poisonous and flammable material to clean the surface sealant or to apply the finish. It is very important to supply a sufficient flow of air when you repair the fuel tank. It is also very important to obey carefully all of the fire safety precautions.You must carefully do all of the precautions to mix and to apply the sealants and the finish materials. You must carefully obey all of the precautions to put them in a safe location when you do not use them. These precautions are very important. Carefully obey the accepted procedures because a bad seal can cause an accident that can cause bad injuries to persons and damage to the airplane.Obey the manufacturer's instructions to mix the base material and the accelerator material fully. Do not mix the type of sealant that you apply with a brush until you are prepared to use it. This type of sealant has a short work life. You must not use thinners with the sealant. Keep a cover on the sealant when you do not use it.

You must apply the sealant before the end of the specified application time of the mixed sealant compound. The application time is usually specified by a dash number after the class identifier. For example, the application time for BMS 5-26, Class B-2 is specified as 2 hours at 77°F and 50% relative humidity. Refer to Fig. 803 for sealant application times.

 (6)  
You must apply the sealant for a structure assembly on a mating surface seal before the end of the specified squeeze-out life. The time shown in Fig. 801 is the maximum permitted for these results:

 (a)  
If the sealant was frozen, it is the time from when you start to thaw the sealant to when the mating surfaces bond permanently.

 (b)  
If the sealant was not frozen, it is the time from when you mix the sealant to when the mating surfaces bond permanently.

 (7)  
All of the equipment that you use to apply the sealant must be clean. Clean all of the equipment fully after each task when you apply the sealant. Two part compounds (mixed with an accelerator) will become hard. Thus it is not easy to clean the equipment.

 B. Equipment

Gun - spray, to apply finish

Paper - blotting, to apply finish

 (e)  
Sponge - cellulose, to apply finish

Container - stainless steel

 (4)  
Containers - with graduations for volume measurement of sealant and finish material and curing agents

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THE CAPACITY OF THE EXHAUST FAN IS MORE THAN THE
_______ CAPACITY OF THE AIR BLOWER. AN EXPLOSION CAN OCCUR IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A GOOD FLOW OF AIR.
