C. Find the Applicable Repair Procedure

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THE FUEL LEAK DOES NOT GO INTO AN IMPORTANT AREA OF
_______ THE AIRPLANE. MAKE SURE THAT LEAKAGE DOES NOT GO INTO THE FUSELAGE AREAS. FUEL LEAKS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (1)  
Refer to AMM 28-11-00/601 to find the applicable repair procedure for the leak type.

 (2)  
If you find a leak in a fillet seal or a fastener seal, do these steps:

 (a)  Remove the sealant that has the leak.
 NOTE: Refer to the procedure, "Remove the Sealant" in the
____ task, "Repair of Sealant Leaks in the Fuel Tank Structure".
 (b)  
Fully clean the surfaces.

 (c)  
Apply some new sealant to make a seal of the same dimensions as the initial seal.

 NOTE: Refer to the procedure, "Apply the Sealant" in the
____ task, "Repair of Sealant Leaks in the Fuel Tank Structure".

 (3)  If you find a leak in a mating surface seal or a prepack seal, do these steps:
 NOTE: Refer to the task, "Repair of Sealant Leaks in the Fuel

 Tank Structure".

 (a)  
Disassemble the structure or remove the fasteners.

 (b)  
Repair the structure (Ref SRM, 51-00-00/001).

 (c)  
An alternative procedure is to lift the seal plane (Fig. 812).

 NOTE: Refer to the procedure, "Lift the Seal Plane" in the
____ task, "Repair of Sealant Leaks in the Fuel Tank Structure".
 1) The new seal plane must isolate the seal with the leak from the fuel. 2) You cannot lift the seal plane by a large quantity.
 NOTE: It is usually a better procedure to remove the
____ structure and to replace it.

 (4)  If you find a leak in an injection seal, do these steps:
 NOTE: You must reject an injection seal if it has air caught in
____ the seal. This causes a space in the seal and can cause a leak.
 (a)  Remove all of the sealant that has the leak.
 NOTE: Refer to the procedure, "Remove the Fuel Tank
____ Sealant" in the task, "Repair of Sealant Leaks in the Fuel Tank Structure".

 (b)  
Fully clean the channel.

 (c)  
Fill the channels fully with the sealant.

 (d)  
As an alternative procedure, you can lift the seal plane to repair a leak in an injection seal.

 3. Fuel Leak Analysis to Find the Cause of the Leaks

 A. General
 (1)  
These are the causes of most of the leaks in the fuel tank structure:

 (a)  
Surfaces are prepared incorrectly.

 (b)  
Sealants are mixed or kept incorrectly.

 (c)  
Sealants are applied incorrectly.

 (d)  
Fasteners are loose.

 (e)  
The fittings or the connections are installed incorrectly.

 (2)  
This task gives data about the causes of fuel leaks. It also gives general precautions that you must obey when you repair leaks.
