 If fuel vapors get into the fuel tank that was in a fire-safe condition, get all persons out of the fuel tank until you make sure the air in the fuel tank is in a fire-safe condition again.

 I.  Purging of the Center Tank

Remove the access panel for the center tank (AMM 28-11-31/401).

VENTURI TYPE VENTILATION EQUIPMENT; Install the purge door assembly for the center tank on the access panel opening (Fig. 206).

 WARNING: PUT THE AIR MOVER IN A POSITION WHERE THE AIR CAN MOVE
_______ FREELY. IF THE EXHAUST AIR BLOWS IMMEDIATELY ON AN OBJECT, THERE IS STATIC ELECTRICITY. THIS CAN CAUSE AN EXPLOSION OR A FIRE.
 (a)  
Install the air mover on the outer side of the access door. 1) Make sure the air mover is a maximum distance from the airplane (to the limit of the hose length). 2) Put the mover on a stand with the exhaust horn pointed up.

 a)  Electrically ground the air mover to the same ground that you used for the airplane.

 (b)  
Put the exhaust air hose through the opening in the purge door the maximum possible distance into the fuel tank.

 NOTE: The access hole in the purge door must be
____ sufficiently large to hold the air hose without blockage of the flow of air from the outer side of the panel.

 (c) (d)  Start the air compressor to supply air to the air mover to give a good flow of air to the tank.After the air supply has operated for approximately 30 minutes, put the sampling line of the combustible gas indicator (Fig. 205) as far into the fuel tank as possible.
 NOTE:____ It is recommended that you take the combustible gas indicator value regardless of the type of fuel that was contained in the fuel tank. If the fuel tank had
 contained kerosene only, then the combustible gas indicator should show zero. This shows that the tank
 atmosphere is in fire-safe and health-safe condition.
 (e) (f)  Wait one minute for each foot (300 mm) of sampling line before you take a reading.Use the table below to convert the values on the combustible gas indicator to the actual levels.
 NOTE:____ If you use a combustible gas indicator that is not listed below, follow the manufacturer's instructions to get the actual values.
