 E. Install a Flap Torque Tube
 S 434-021
 (1)  
Install the flap torque tube air sealer if it was removed
 (Fig. 402):

 (a)  
Put the housing in its position.

 (b)  
Install the four bolts.

 (c)  
Tighten the bolts to 40-50 pound-inches (4.5-5.6 N-m).

 (d)  
Put the seal assembly in the housing.

 (e)  
Install the nut.

 (f)  
Tighten the nut hand tight.

 (g)  
Install the lockwire.

 (2)  
Put the strap on the bearing if the torque tube has a center bearing (Fig. 401).

 (a)  
On the higher torque tubes in the wheel well, make sure the sleeves are aligned with the support brackets.

 S 424-023
 (3)  
Install the torque tube.

 (a)  
Put the torque tube in its position in the airplane.

 (b)  
Apply a layer of grease on the spline surfaces.

 (c)  
Fill the coupler with grease.

 (d)  
Remove the sleeve from the splined couplings.

 (e)  
Move the torque tube outboard to make sure the spline couplings at the outboard end touch.

 (f)  Make sure the clearance between the spline couplings at the inboard end of the torque tube is in these limits:
 NOTE: The necessary torque tube axial movement will not be met

Engage the torque tube splines with the spline coupling sleeves.

 (h)  
Attach each coupling with three screws.

 CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL LOCKWIRE ON THE COUPLING SCREWS. IF THE COUPLING SCREWS COME OFF, THE TORQUE TUBE COUPLING WILL DISCONNECT AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE.

 (i)  
Install the lockwire on the screws.

 (4)  
Install each half of the spline coupling cover if it is necessary.

Make sure that the torque tube axial movement is free and that the end play is in these limits:

 NOTE: A minimum axial end play of 0.50 inch (1.3 cm) can be
____ satisfactory. It is satisfactory only if the coupling sleeves will not have tension loads. Also, the distance from the rolled end of the sleeve to the face of the sprocket must be 0.38 inch (0.97 cm) or more when the torque tube touches in the opposite direction.
