 (6)  S 216-016Examine the brake keyway inserts for wear.
 (7)  S 216-026Examine the tiebolt installations for: (a) Loose tiebolts and tiebolt nuts (b) Damaged tiebolts (c) Tiebolt locations that do not have tiebolts.
 (8)  S 906-027If you found a loose or damaged tiebolt or a tiebolt location without a tiebolt, do the steps that follow:
 NOTE:____ Refer to the Component Maintenance Manual for the wheel for the procedure to lubricate and install the tiebolts. The torque values for the tiebolt nuts are for a wheel with a tire that is deflated.
 WARNING:_______ DEFLATE THE TIRE BEFORE YOU REMOVE ANY TIEBOLTS. AN EXPLOSIVE SEPARATION OF THE WHEEL HALVES COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DAMAGE.
 (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f)  Deflate the tire.Remove damaged or loose tiebolts.Remove the tiebolts on the two sides of tiebolt locations that had damaged or loose tiebolts.Remove the tiebolts on the two sides of tiebolt locations that did not have tiebolts.Discard the tiebolts and tiebolt nuts that you removed.Lubricate the new tiebolts and tiebolt nuts.
 NOTE:____ Refer to the wheel vendor maintenance manual for the procedure to lubricate and install the tiebolts.
 (g)  Install the new tiebolts and tiebolt nuts.
 (9)  S 616-028Inflate the tire, if necessary (AMM 12-15-06/301).

 (10) Examine the wheels for blown thermal fuses.  Put a tag on a wheel with blown thermal fuse.
 NOTE: More careful examination is necessary for wheels with tags
____ for blown thermal fuses. A blown thermal fuse has no cylindrical packing in the fuse retainers. Any fuse retainer which is partially melted (extruded) should be treated as a blown thermal fuse.
 (a)  
Examine a wheel that becomes too hot or a wheel with a blown thermal fuse to make sure it is circular. 1) Measure the largest and smallest external diameter of each

 wheel half (Fig. 601). For thermal damage inspection, refer to applicable wheel vendor maintemance manual.

 (b)  
For a full inspection of a heat damaged wheel, refer to the applicable wheel component maintenance manual.

 (c)  
Make sure the thermal fuse retainers are tight.

 (d)  
Tighten the retainers to a specified torque given in the applicable component maintenance manual.

 Make sure that all balance weights are correctly installed and tightly attached.

 Examine the wheel heat shield for damage, cracks and wear.

 Examine for groove on the outer surface of the wheel hub which is next to the brake assembly.

 NOTE: The groove is caused by the contact of the bent torque tube

 heat shield which is located at the brake assembly.

 Examine the overinflation plug and inflation valve for damage.

 Measure the axle sleeve, inboard and outboard bearing surfaces for wear (Fig. 602).
