 (6)  Make sure the clearance between the fan cowl panels is 0.125 inch
 (3.2 mm) at each latch.
 (a)  If the clearance is not in the limits, adjust the clearance with the steps that follow: 1) Release the latch for the fan cowl panels. 2) Remove the shims (6 locations) from the left fan cowl panel
 with the steps that follow:
 a)  Remove the location pin and shims on the forward side of each latch keeper (3 locations).
 b)  Install the location pin.
 c) Remove the shims on the aft side of each latch keeper (3 locations). 3) Apply the modeling clay [approximately 0.25 inch (6.4 mm) thick] to the shim locations. 4) Apply the corrosion inhibiting compound to the shim mating surfaces.
 5)  Close the fan cowl panels while you hold the 0.125-inch (3.2-mm) thick spacers between the fan cowl panels at each latch location.
 NOTE: To make sure the dimension of the shims is correct,
____ you must close the fan cowl panels until they touch the 0.125-inch (3.2-mm) thick spacers.
 6)  Open the fan cowl panels.

7)  Measure the thickness of the modeling clay.
 8)  Install the shims to the same thickness of the modeling clay with the steps that follow: a) Remove the laminations until the shims are the same
 thickness of the modeling clay at each shim location. b) Apply the primer to the shims. c) Remove the location pins (3 locations) on the forward
 side of each latch keeper.
 1 Install the locating pins with the shims.

_ d) Install the shims on the aft side of each latch keeper (3 locations).

 CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN A 60-POUND (267-N) FORCE ON THE LATCH
_______ HANDLE. IF YOU APPLY A LARGER FORCE, THE FORCE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LATCH.
 (7)  With a push-pull scale, make sure the load necessary to close the latches is 40-60 pounds (178-267 Newtons).
 CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE KEEPER EYEBOLT TO ADJUST THE LATCH
_______ TENSION. IF YOU TURN THE KEEPER EYEBOLT, DAMAGE TO THE KEEPER CAN OCCUR.
 (a)  If the load necessary to close the latch is not in the limits, adjust the latch with the steps that follow: 1) Open the latches to the 15-degree position. 2) Install the hex wrench into the adjustment star in the
 keeper mounting.
 3)  Turn the adjustment star with the hex wrench in the direction necessary to get a latch load of 40-60 pounds (178-267 Newtons).
 NOTE: The keeper mounting shows the direction to turn the
____ adjustment star to increase the load.
 (b)  Close all fan cowl latches.

 (8)  Make sure all latch handles are smooth with the contour of the fan cowl panel [|0.03 inch (|0.76 mm)].
 (a)  If the latch handle is not smooth with the contour, adjust the keeper position to adjust the latch handle:
 NOTE: The latch keepers are made with the slotted holes to

 permit the contour adjustment.

 1) Release the fan cowl panels.
 2) Loosen the four bolts which hold the keeper to the left fan

 cowl panel. 3) Move the keeper in if the latch was above the surface. 4) Move the keeper out if the latch was below the surface. 5) Tighten the four bolts which hold the keeper to the left
 fan cowl panel.
