(e)  Install protective caps to the cooling air tubes.

 (2)  If necessary, do the steps that follow to remove the assembly that holds the buffer air cooler:
 (a)  
Remove the bolt that holds the mount bracket of the outer rod end. 1) Remove the mount bracket.

 (b)  
Loosen the outer jamnut, and remove the outer rod end bearing from the strut. 1) Remove the jamnut from the outer rod end bearing.

 (c)  
Loosen the inner jamnut, and remove the strut and the jamnut. 1) Remove the jamnut from the inner rod end bearing.

 (d)  
Remove the bolt and nut that hold the inner rod end bearing to the mount bracket on the intermediate case. 1) Remove the inner rod end bearing from the mount bracket.

 (3)  Remove the two supports along the axial edges of the buffer air cooler with the steps that follow:
 (a)  
Remove the bolts and nuts that attach the two supports along the axial edges of the buffer air cooler.

 (b)  
Remove the two supports.

 (4)  Remove all remaining sealant from the intermediate case and the buffer air cooler.

 (1)  Examine the items that follow to see if the clearances are in the limits shown in the table below:
 (a)  
The outer diameter of the bolt and the inner diameter of the mounting bracket of the rod end bearing.

 (b)  
The outer diameter of the bolt and the inner diameter of the rod end bearing.

 (c)  
The thickness (TH) of the rod end bearing and the inner diameter of the mount bracket of the rod end bearing.
