INTRODUCTION
This Data Base Section contains information on the Navigation Data
Base, Pilot Defined Data Base, Company Routes Data Base, Offline
Flight Planning Data Base, Checklist Data Base and performance
Data Base. The data bases are all contained on a 3 1/2” floppy disk
and are loaded into the FMS via a Data Transfer Unit (DTU).
Performance Data Base
Certain aircraft configured for Advanced Performance options, have
available, a performance data base. The performance data base is
loaded into the FMS via the DTU. With the performance data base
loaded, the FMS will compute and display takeoff and landing
speeds, as well as takeoff, climb and cruise engine settings. See
Supplement Section in the Appendix of this manual.
Checklist Data Base
A checklist data base is available on certain aircraft with Collins Pro
Line 4 equipment. The four part checklist (Normal, Abnormal,
Emergency and Crew Notes) is created using a PC and then loaded
into Universal’s FMS via the DTU.
Dual Cycle Data Base
The UNS-1C, UNS-1Csp, UNS-1D and UNS-1K FMS systems have
two memory banks for nav data. This allows a future (not yet
effective) data base to be loaded and stored until its effective date.
The memory bank being used is referred to as the active bank and
the memory bank not being used is referred to as the inactive bank.
Selection of which bank is active can be accomplished in two ways,
either manually or automatically at power up.

Automatic selection during power up is made possible by the FMS
checking the data base expiration dates against the current date. If
a data base has expired, it will become inactive and the next cycle
data base will become the active data base.
Manual selection of the data base to be active is accomplished from
the DATA/NAV 2/2 page. This page is accessed from DATA 1/4
page by selecting NAV DATA [1L] to get DATA/NAV 1/2 and then
pressing NEXT. DATA/NAV 2/2 shows the ACTIVE and INACTIVE
memory banks. An ACTIVATE prompt will appear on the INACTIVE
side of the screen. The inactive bank is made active by pressing the
ACTIVATE line select key twice. The FMS will then go through a
self test and return to the initialization page.

NAVIGATION DATA BASE
NOTICE
All data contained in both the worldwide and regionalized
NAV Data Bases is compiled and supplied by Jeppesen
Sanderson, Inc. or an equivalent manufacturer. This
includes the original data contained in each new system
and the update data periodically supplied in floppy disk
format. While every effort is made to ensure that the stored
data is accurate, it is the user’s responsibility and
prerogative to reference Jeppesen’s or other publications in
order to verify the accuracy of the data that is to be used.
Navigation data is separated into STANDARD data and EXTENDED
data. Standard data consists of airports, intersection, VOR and NDB
navaids, plain language descriptions of airports, and High and Low
altitude airways. Extended data consists of SIDs, STARs,
approaches (including NDB and GPS overlay) and Runway
coordinates. The Extended data is available with either precision or
non-precision approaches.
The FMS provides the plain language or geographical name for all
Navigation data base navaids and airports that it stores and uses.
These plain language names will be provided to the pilot as a special
LIST feature for APT’s, VOR’s and NDB’s. The names will be
displayed up to twelve characters in length. This helps eliminate
difficulty in correlating airports and navaid names with their
identifiers. Many airports and navaids have no correlation with the
named geographical location. North Platte (LBF) and Brunswick
(SSI) are typical examples).
The data base is available as a worldwide data base with a choice of
either runways ≥2000 feet or runways ≥4000 feet. The data base is
also available as a North American Helicopter region.
The 4000 foot runway data base covers the entire world.

The 2000 foot runway data base is separated into a choice of two
areas: 1) World without Eastern Europe (EEU), Middle East (MES),
Africa (AFR) and South Pacific (SPA). 2) World without Latin
America (LAM) and South America (SAM).
The North American Helicopter Region includes airports of all
runway lengths (hard and soft surfaces) for a geographic area
