lateral transitions will be made from FMS to Localizer.
• LOC Approach - For LOC approaches, the FMS receives lateral
deviation data from the ILS receiver and retransmits it as the
lateral FMS deviation output. A pseudo glideslope is computed to
the runway, thus allowing full 3-dimensional approach capability.
• BC Approach - For Backcourse (BC) approaches, the FMS
receives deviation data from the ILS receiver, inverts and
retransmits it as FMS lateral deviation. As with LOC approaches,
a pseudo glideslope is computed to the runway.
• VFR Approach - For any approach in visual conditions. Definition
and reception of a primary VOR facility is optional. Quality factor
requirements are less stringent for valid navigation (28 or less)
than for other approach options. Also can be used anytime
runway coordinates have been manually entered by the pilot and
inbound course and distance has not been entered.

• VOR Approach - For VOR approaches. Collocated DME will be
used when available, but does not require it’s reception for valid
navigation. VOR signals must be received from the reference
facility and DME signals must be received from any available
facility. When Remote Tune is enabled (programmed into the
Configuration Module at installation), selecting APPROACH will
tune the VOR receiver to the reference facility. The Q factor must
be equal to or less than 10 while 30 to 15 NM from the end-ofapproach
point. The Q must be equal to or less than 5 while within
15 NM of the end-of-approach point.
• RNV Approach - This is selected for RNAV or VOR-DME
approaches. VOR and DME signals must be received from the
reference facility. When Remote Tune is enabled (programmed
into the Configuration Module at installation), selecting Approach
will tune the VOR receiver to the reference facility. The Q factor
must be equal to or less than 10 while 30 to 15 NM from the endof-
approach point. The Q must be equal to or less than 5 while
within 15 NM of the end-of-approach point.
• TACAN Approach- This option will only appear when a Radio
Reference Sensor (RRS) or separate TACAN sensor is installed.
TACAN bearing and distance signals must be received from the
reference facility. The Q factor must be equal to or less than 10
while 30 to 15 NM from the end-of-approach point. The Q must be
equal to or less than 5 while within 15 NM of the end-of-approach
point.
NOTE: If an approach is being created from a VOR Approach
where the reference VOR facility has DME, it is
recommended that the TYPE selection be RNV. The DME
tunes the 15 closest stations once every minute. By
selecting RNV, the reference facility DME will be one of
every 2 DMEs tuned (instead of only once for every 15
DMEs tuned). Also, the pilot will be warned more quickly if
there is a loss of DME from the reference facility.

FAF - The name of the FAF (Final Approach Fix). Entry of an
identifier for the FAF will result in the calculation and display of the
inbound course and distance on the last line of the page if the
runway is defined in the runway data base. The LIST key may be
used to call up the FAF name.
If a runway has been previously defined in the runway data base and
the pilot enters nothing here, a default name will be displayed when
the inbound course and distance entries are made. The default
name will be FAFXX where XX is the same as the runway number.
The FAF may be passed over only if the runway has been previously
defined and stored in the runway data base. If the runway is not in
the data base, the FAF must be defined.
INBD CRS - The inbound course from the FAF (Final Approach Fix)
to the MAP or runway. The inbound course is computed based on
the runway data when a known location is entered in the FAF entry
field. This may be overwritten; in which case the pilot entered
course will be used to define the MAP. If no name has been entered
in the FAF entry field or the runway is not defined in the runway data
base, this field will initially be blank and the course must be entered.
FAC - The name of the reference facility. Entering a VOR identifier
results in a search of the data base for a navaid of that name. The
LIST key may be used to call up a list of facilities.
FREQ - The frequency of the reference facility. When the reference
facility identifier is entered, the frequency defaults to the frequency
listed in the data base if the reference facility is found.
