 (3) Distance to environment (Ref. Fig. 012)
 (a) Distance from structure and equipment: Electrical wires must be routed so that they never, even intermittently, come into contact with the adjacent structure or fixed or moving items of equipment (flight controls, bellcranks, etc.). The minimum distance is (case B): (Ref. Fig. 012)
 -25 mm (0.9842 in.) from structure or equipment located below.
 -20 mm (0.7874 in.) from structure or equipment located above or at the side.
 -50 mm (1.9685 in.) minimum from moving parts. This distance can be reduced to 10 mm (0.3937 in.) when there is an attachment point (case C). (Ref. Fig. 012) There must be a distance of at least 10 mm (0.3937 in.) between the harness and non insulated surfaces (carbon, metal etc.). If this requirement cannot be met, special protection must be considered. PTFE adhesive tape DAN269 can be used on the structure.
 (b) Piping
 (Ref. Fig. 013)

 -Generally harnesses must be routed above or beside piping and as far away as possible (at least 50 mm (1.9685 in.)) from pipes containing flammable fluids (such as fuel, oxygen and hydraulic fluids).
 -This minimum distance can be reduced to 15 mm (0.5905 in.) if the pipes do not contain flammable or very hot fluids (air, water, etc.).
 -The distance between an oxygen line and coaxial wire must be greater than 15 mm (0.5905 in.).
 (c) Distance from other harnesses (Ref. Fig. 014) To keep the electrical wiring separate, you can use separators and spacers (ABS0054, ABS0731, E0688, NSA5527 or equivalent). When the use of spacers or separators is mandatory, they are shown in the installation drawing.

R  If necessary, you can add spacers to get a correct clearance but you must keep them to a minimum. Separators and spacers are not to be used in hot areas. In these areas, lacing tape NSA8420-2 is used as a separator (noose type knot).

NOTE : For EFCS harnesses, the use of spacers or separators is prohibited.

 (4)
 Protection, insulation, sealing of harnesses

 (a) Structure feedthroughs (Ref. Fig. 015) Where harnesses pass through holes in the structure, a clamp shall be provided to hold the harness at least 5 mm (0.1968 in.) away from the edge of the hole. Where this clearance cannot be observed, a silicone extrusion NSA360002 or ASNA2679 or equivalent shall be installed. Wiring must never be in contact with this protection.

 (5)
 Harness protection The wire harnesses are routed in such a way that under no circumstances, even temporary, can they come into contact with the structure or adjacent equipment. In locations where the wire bundles could come into contact with the structure or to ensure segregation rules, bundle protections are provided.

NOTE : The lack of distance or the contact between a protected harness and the structure is allowed if this protected harness does not have a relative movement against this part of the structure.

(7) Positioning of harnesses on aircraft
 -Put the harness into position using installation flags located on the harness head to mark the beginning of the uncoiling direction. Before harness removal/reinstallation, and if there are no initial flags, identify the harness attachment points with new flags (e.g. curve, hinge, etc.) (Ref. Fig. 016)
 -
The harnesses must be transported and uncoiled for all handling operations. They must never be dragged or pulled at connector level.

 -
The positioning of harnesses requires special attention. It is recommended to fit the harness with a temporary protective tubing to perform this operation.


 -As a general rule, harness twisting is not allowed. However, slight twisting without stress on the wires is tolerated to position the branches in the correct direction at hinged movable parts.
