Procedure to Repair the Axle Sleeves of the Main Landing Gear

 S 218-016
 (1)  
Do a check on the wear limits of the bearing boss.

 (a)  
Examine the diameters of the inboard and the outboard bearing boss for worn areas as shown on Fig. 802.

 NOTE: If worn areas on the bearing boss is more than the
____ specified wear limits and the clearance between the bearing and the boss is more than 0.006 inch, you must remove the axle sleeve and replace or rework (Ref 32-11-11, OHM).
 If worn areas on the bearing boss is more than the specified wear limits and the clearance between the bearing and the boss is not more than 0.006 inch, the axle sleeves can continue to be in service for 65 hours flying time before removal for replacement or repair (Ref 32-11-11, OHM).

Remove the sharp edges and make a smooth finish on the damage to a 0.50 inch radius.

 NOTE: Do not reduce the wall thickness by more than 0.025 inch

 0.012 inch for P/N 65-46147-3 when you rework.

 (1)  
Remove the clamp from the gravel protection shield.

Remove the shield.

 (3)  
Remove the antiskid transducer (Ref 32-42-11/401) to get access to the connectors.

 (4)  
Pull the electrical connectors out of the axle and disconnect the wires.

 (5)  
Remove the fittings (1, 2), the washer(s) (4), and the expandable fitting (3) from the hole in the axle.

 NOTE: Monitor the number of washers to make the assembly easier.

 (6)  Remove the hose clamps.
