Do the steps above a second time to make sure the rudder moves left and right.

 (f)  
Turn the rudder trim switch fully clockwise (nose right) and hold it until the rudder stops. 1) If necessary, operate the rudder pedals to help move the

 rudder to it position.
 2)  Look at the flight controls maintenance page of EICAS and make sure the rudder moved a minimum of 23.7 degrees to the right.
 NOTE: This is 48.1 inches of travel at the trailing edge

 of the lower rudder.

 3)  Make sure the rudder trim indicator on the control stand shows a minimum of 9.5 units of trim nose right.
 (g)  Turn the rudder trim switch fully counterclockwise (nose left) and hold it until the rudder stops. 1) Look at the flight controls maintenance page of EICAS and
 make sure the rudder moved a minimum of 23.7 degrees to the left.
 NOTE: This is 48.1 inches of travel at the trailing edge

 of the lower rudder.

 2)  Make sure the rudder trim indicator on the control stand shows a minimum of 9.5 units of trim nose left.
 (h)  Release the rudder trim switch.

 M.  Rudder Travel Test

 (1)  
Prepare for the test.

 (a)  
Make sure that these circuit breakers are closed:

 1)  P180, DC Power Distribution Panel a) 180E7 ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 2 b) 180E22 ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 4 c) 180H8 ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 1 d) 180H23 ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 3

 (b)  
Find the switches for the FLT CONTROL HYD POWER on the Pilot's Overhead Maintenance Panel, P461. 1) Put the four TAIL switches in the NORM position.

 (c)  
Set the rudder trim to zero.

 (d)  
Make sure the trailing edge of the lower rudder is in the width of the index tab (Fig. 505).

 (e)  
Make sure the trailing edge of the upper rudder is not more than 0.20 inch from the trailing edge of the lower rudder.

 NOTE:  Measure the distance horizontally between the trailing edges.

 (f)  
Make sure the flight controls maintenance page of EICAS shows the rudders are 0.5 degrees left to 0.5 degrees right.

 (2)  
Rudder travel test, low speed (0.0 knots).

 (a)  
Push the captain's left rudder pedal fully forward and hold it. 1) Make sure the flight controls maintenance page of EICAS shows the rudders are at 31.5 +/- 1.5 degrees.

 2)  Measure and record the travel of the trailing edge of the lower rudder.
 NOTE:  The travel is the distance from the outboard side of
____ the trailing edge of the lower rudder to the nearest aft corner of the groove in the rudder index plate.
 3)  Measure and make a record of the distance between the trailing edges of the upper rudder and the lower rudder (this is the mismatch).
 NOTE:  The mismatch is positive if the upper rudder is
____ outboard of the lower rudder. The mismatch is negative if the upper rudder is inboard of the lower rudder.

 4) Calculate the travel of the upper rudder: LT = Lower rudder travel (in inches) UT = Upper rudder travel (in inches) MM = mismatch between the lower and upper rudder (in
 inches)
 UT = LT + (1.24 X MM)
 5)  Make sure the travel of the lower rudder and the upper rudder is 62.59-64.56 inches.
 6)  Make sure the rudder position indicators on the status page of EICAS show the rudders are fully left (the pointers are left of the third ten degree mark).
