Prepare to Install the Hinge

 (1)  
Make sure the rudder hinge segments and the bolt for the hinge are not worn too much.

Install the Hinge

 WARNING: MAKE SURE PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR BELOW THE RUDDERS.

 (1)  
Do these steps to install hinge No. 2 or 3.

 (a)  
Apply corrosion preventive compound to the vertical fin, where the bearing assembly (1) will touch it.

 (b)  
Put the bearing assembly (1) in its position on the vertical fin.

 (c)  
Install the bolts (2), the washers (3), and the nuts (4) (8 locations). Tighten the nuts (4) to 80-100 pound-inches.

 (d)  
Connect the bonding jumper (20) to the rudder.

 (e)  
Apply a thin layer of grease to the pin (11 or 21).

 (f)  
Install the pin (11) in hinge No. 2, or the bushing (22) and the pin (21) in hinge No. 3.

 (g)  
Tighten the threaded bushing(s) (12) with your hand until there is no clearance between the bushing and the bearing.

 (h)  
Install lockwire on the bushing(s) (12) in a direction that will keep them tight.

 (i)  
Install the washer (18), and the nut (17). Also, install the washers (19) until the lockbolt (14) engages the nut (17) correctly. 1) Tighten the nut (17) to 2000-2400 pound-inches. 2) If it is necessary, tighten the nut (17) to a maximum of

 3200 pound-inches to let you install the lockbolt (14).

 (j)  
Install the lockbolt (14), the washer (15), and the nut (16).

 (k)  
Install Lockwire on the pin (11 or 21).

 (l)  
Put sealant into the lockwire holes that are in the actuator clevises. Fully fill the holes, and put a bead of sealant around the holes.

Do these steps to install hinge No. 6.

 (a)  
Put the hinge lower assembly (5) in its position on the rudder front spar.

 NOTE: The hinge upper assembly (10) must be attached to the
____
 hinge lower assembly (5).

 (b)  
Install the bolts (6) and the washers (7) (2 locations). Tighten the bolts (6) to 65-100 pound-inches.

 (c)  
Install the bolts (9) and the washers (8) (4 locations). Tighten the bolts (9) to 65-100 pound-inches.

 (d)  
Put the hinge upper segment (49) and the hinge lower
 segment (45) in their position on the vertical fin.

 (e)  
Install the bolts (48), the washers (47) (at each end of the bolts), and the nuts (46) (4 locations). Tighten the bolts (48) to 300-350 pound-inches.
