Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:

 (a)  
P180, DC Power Distribution Panel,
 1) 180H8 ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 1
 2) 180E7 ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 2
 3) 180H23 ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 3
 4) 180E22 ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 4

Remove electrical power (Ref 24-22-00/201).

Procedure

 (1)  
Loosen the shaft retaining nut (19) and move it forward on the shaft.

 (2)  
Remove the clamps (13) and the grommet (17) that attach the flexshaft (3) to the rudder pedal cover (15).

Hold the shaft retaining nut (19) and the washer (20).

Pull the flexshaft (3) aft until the end of the flexshaft is clear of the support structure (18).

Remove the nut (6) and remove the handle (5).

Remove the screws (7) that attach the retaining plate (8) to the upper cover (4).

Remove the two screws (12) and the four screws (10) that attach the upper cover (4) to the lower cover (15).

Loosen the nut (1) that attaches the flexshaft (3) to the bearing housing (9).

Remove the flexshaft (3) from the airplane.

Make sure the nut (1) and the washer (2) are on the flexshaft (3).

Put the flexshaft (3) in its position.

 NOTE: Install the flexshaft without tight bends.

Attach the flex shaft (3) to the bearing housing (9) with the nut

 and the washer (2).

Put the upper cover (4) in its position and attach it with the screws (10, 12).

Put the retaining plate (8) in its position on the bearing
 housing (9).

Install the screws (7) to attach the retaining plate (8) and the bearing housing (9) to the support bracket (11).

Install the handle (5) with the nut (6).

 (a)  
Put washers behind the handle to get a minimum clearance of

 0.01 inches between the retaining plate (8) and the pin of the handle (when you have the handle pulled fully out). Put a maximum of three washers behind the handle.

Put the end of the flexshaft (3) through the hole in the support structure (18).

 (8)  
Put the washer (20) and the shaft retaining nut (19) on the end of the flexshaft.
