Prepare the lubrication insert (15) for installation into the upper spindle bolt (14).

 (a)  
Examine the O-rings (16) for deterioration or damage. 1) If it is necessary, replace the O-rings.

 (b)  
Apply a large quantity of grease to the O-rings (16) and the lubrication insert (15).

 (c)  
Apply a large quantity of grease to the inner diameter of the upper spindle bolt (14).

 (d)  
Put the O-rings (16) on the lubrication insert (15).

 (e)  
If it is necessary, lubricate the lubrication insert (15) again.

 (5)  
Install the lubrication insert (15) in the bolt (14).

 (6)  
Prepare the lubrication insert (17) for installation into the apex bolt (20).

 (a)  
Examine the O-rings (18) for deterioration or damage. 1) If it is necessary, replace the O-rings.

 (b)  
Apply a large quantity of grease to the O-rings (18) and the lubrication insert (17).

 (c)  
Apply a large quantity of grease to the inner surface of the apex bolt (20).

 (d)  
Put the O-rings (18) on the lubrication insert (17).

 (e)  
If it is necessary, lubricate the lubrication insert (17) again.

Procedure

 S 434-052
 (1)  
Install the upper spindle bolt (14).

 (a)  
Apply a layer of grease to the threads and the shank of the upper spindle bolt (14).

 (b)  
Apply a layer of grease to the tang washer (13).

 (c)  
Lift the upper side strut into the correct position with the hoist.

 (d)  
Align the swivel bracket with the spindle (10) and the upper side strut (1).

 (e)  
Push the upper spindle bolt (14) with the lubrication insert (15) through the upper side strut (1) and the spindle (10).

 (f)  
Install the tang washer (13) and the nut (12). 1) Tighten the nut (12) 480 to 600 pound-inches. 2) Lightly loosen the nut (12) to align the lockbolt hole with

 the nearest castellation of the nut.

 (g)  
Install the lockbolt (11), the washer, and the locknut.

 S 434-029
 (2)  
Install the apex bolt (20).

 (a)  
Align the upper side strut, the lower side strut, and the lower jury strut for installation of the apex bolt.

 (b)  
Install the apex bolt (20) in the side strut.

 (c)  
Install the bolt (19), the tang washer (22) and the retainer (23).

 (d)  
Install the washer and the nut (24).

 NOTE: Use a socket and an extension through the apex bolt (20)
____ to hold the head of the bolt (19).
 1) Tighten the nut (24) to 65-100 pound-inches.
 NOTE: Apply 65 pound-inches torque initially to the nut
____ (24). Align the bolt hole and nut castellation as you slowly increase the torque. Do not apply more than 100 pound-inches. If the nut castellations and bolt hole do not align after you reach 100 pound-inches, remove the nut (24). Install additional washer and perform the same procedure again until you align the bolt hole within 65-100 pound-inches.
 (e)  Install the cotter pin.
