 S 494-020
 WARNING:_______MAKE SURE THE BUNGEE TOOL IS ON THE DOWNLOCK BUNGEE. THE BUNGEE CAN EJECT FROM THE SIDE STRUT IF YOU TRY TO ASSEMBLE THE SIDE STRUT WITHOUT THE BUNGEE TOOL. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
 (1)  Make sure the bungee tool is on the downlock bungee
 (AMM 32-32-16/401).

Examine the O-rings (28) for deterioration or damage. 1) If it is necessary, replace the O-rings.

Apply a large quantity of grease to the O-rings (28) and the lubrication insert (29).

 (c)  
Apply a large quantity of grease to the inner surface of the spindle bolt (30).

 (d)  
Put the O-rings (28) on the lubrication insert (29).

 (e)  
If it is necessary, lubricate the lubrication insert (29) again.

Install the lubrication insert (29) into the spindle bolt (30).

Prepare the lubrication insert (10) for installation into the apex bolt (13).

 (a)  
Examine the O-rings (11) for deterioration or damage. 1) If it is necessary, replace the O-rings.

 (b)  
Apply a large quantity of grease to the O-rings (11) and the lubrication insert (10).

 (c)  
Apply a large quantity of grease to the inner surface of the apex bolt (13).

 (d)  
Put the O-rings (11) on the lubrication insert (10).

 (e)  
If it is necessary, lubricate the lubrication insert (10) again.

Procedure

 (1)  
Install the apex bolt (13):

 (a)  
Lubricate the shank and the threads of the apex bolt (13).

 (b)  
Align the top end of the lower side strut (6) with the lower end of the upper side strut (1).

 (c)  
Install the apex bolt (13) into the joint.

 (d)  
Install the bolt (12), the tang washer (15) and the retainer (16).

 (e)  Install the washer with the nut.
 NOTE:____ A socket with an extension is necessary to hold the head of the bolt (12).
 1)  Tighten the nut to 65-100 pound-inches.
 NOTE:____ Apply 65 pound-inches torque initially to the nut. Align the bolt hole and nut castellation as you slowly increase the torque. Do not apply more than 100 pound-inches. If the nut castellations and bolt hole do not align after you reach 100 pound-inches, remove the nut. Install additional washer and perform the same procedure again until you align the bolt hole within 65-100 pound-inches.
 2)  Install the cotter pin.
 (2)  S 434-060Install the hose bracket (9) with the bushings, the lockpin, and the retainer clamp.
 (3)  S 644-061Apply a large quantity of grease in the apex bolt (13) at the head of the bolt (12).
 NOTE:____ The longitudinal depth of the grease must be 0.50 to 0.75 inches in the apex bolt (13).
 (4)  S 434-062Install the lubrication insert (10) with the O-rings (11) into the apex bolt (13).
