Install the aft trunnion bearing (Fig. 402):

 CAUTION: DO NOT CHANGE ONE HALF OF THE OUTER BEARING RACE WITH A
_______ DIFFERENT HALF. EACH HALF IS PART OF A SPECIFIED SET. THE INSTALLATION OF AN INCORRECT HALF CAN CAUSE DETERIORATION OF THE AFT TRUNNION BEARING WHEN THE LANDING GEAR OPERATES.
 (a)  Put each half of the outer bearing race (2) on the inner race (spherical bearing) (1).
 NOTE: It is necessary to hold the scrapers correctly when you
____ put the outer race on the inner race.
 (b)  Apply some fiberglass tape around the outer surface of the outer bearing race at the bottom of the flange.
 NOTE: This will hold the components together when you install
____ the assembly in the support beam.
 (c)  
Start the bearing assembly into the support beam from the aft side.

 (d)  
Align the five lugs of the outer bearing race until the largest span between the lugs is on the top.

 NOTE: These lugs will align with the slots in the bearing
____
 retainer.

 (e)  
While the outer race (2) is not fully in the housing, remove the fiberglass tape.

 (f)  
Lightly hit the outer bearing race into the correct position.

 (g)  
Apply the BMS 5-95 (class C) sealant to the bearing retainer (10).

 (h)  Put the bearing retainer (10) on the aft side of the support beam.
 NOTE: The lugs on the outer bearing race align with the
____ slots in the bearing retainer.
 (i)  Install the bearing retainer bolts: 1) Apply the BMS 5-95 (class C) sealant to the five bolts
 (3,9) for the bearing retainer (10). 2) Put one countersunk washer on each bolt. 3) Install the bolts from the forward side of the support
 beam.
 NOTE: You must install the bolts immediately to make sure
____ the sealant bonds correctly.
 4) Install a washer on the end of each bolt. 5) Install the nuts on the bolt ends.
 CAUTION: TIGHTEN THE NUTS BEFORE THE END OF THE SQUEEZE-OUT LIFE
_______ FOR THE SEALANT. AN INCORRECT SEAL CAN OCCUR IF YOU TIGHTEN THE NUTS IN LESS THAN 60 MINUTES BEFORE THE END OF THE SQUEEZE-OUT LIFE. THIS CAN CAUSE CORROSION AND DETERIORATION OF THE BEARING COMPONENTS.
 (j)  
Tighten the nuts on the 9/16-inch bolts to 1300 - 1800 pound-inches.

 (k)  
Tighten the nuts on the 5/8-inch bolts to 1900 - 2300 pound-inches.

 CAUTION: TIGHTEN THE NUTS AGAIN DURING THE SEALANT SQUEEZE-OUT
_______ LIFE. IF YOU DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUTS IN THIS TIME, AN INCORRECT SEAL CAN OCCUR. THIS CAN CAUSE CORROSION AND DETERIORATION OF THE BEARING COMPONENTS.
 (l)  
Tighten the nuts to the maximum torque (+00/-20 pound-inches) 20 to 60 minutes after you first tightened them.

 (m)  
Seal the bolt heads and the nuts with the BMS 5-95 (class B) sealant.

 (1)  
Make sure the oleo jack and the mechanical lock are on the wing landing gear.

 S 214-030

 (2)  
Make sure there is sealant around the two bolt heads and nuts which hold the outer sleeve (12) to the trunnion.
