 cowl if it opens. The door is manually latched. When the door opens
 during flight after an overpressure occurs, it does not latch again
 automatically if the overpressure decreases. You can see on the ground
 that the door is open. 
R  5. Operation/Control and Indicating________________________________ 
R  A. Ventilation of the Wing Leading Edge 
R  (1) Leading Edge Inboard of and above the Pylon 

R  In flight, air comes into the NACA ram-air inlet. It moves the air to 
R  a piccolo duct system which distributes the air within the leading 
R  edge. The ventilation air blows through holes along the top of the 
R  leading edge above the pneumatic duct. The air is bled overboard 
R  through the gaps around the slat tracks and drainage/exhaust holes. 
R  At the outboard end, an extension of the piccolo duct system goes 
R  through the RIB 7. This point is sealed with a rubber grommet. 
R  Outboard of the RIB 7 the extension is installed to the LP fuel 
R  valve. The ventilation air removes any fuel vapour which occurs. It 
R  also supplies air to the space above the pylon. From here the air 
R  goes through the drainage and exhaust holes and a 12.7 mm (0.5000 
R  in.) dia. hole to the outboard side of the pylon. 

R  Some ventilation air goes inboard to the leading edge of the wing 
R  root fairing. It comes out through drainage and exhaust holes in the 
R  lower fairings. The upper and lower fairings of the wing root are 
R  sealed in line with the front spar. To keep the pressure in the 
R  fairings, the left and right ventilation system are sealed from the 
R  bay of the main landing gear. 
R  (2) Leading Edge Outboard of the Pylon 

R  The ventilation of the short leading edge section between RIB 12 and 
R  RIB 13 only removes the fuel vapour. This section contains the 
R  anti-icing telescopic duct which is not insulated. Ram air for the 
R  ventilation comes in through the gaps around the slat tracks. It 
R  departs through the drainage and exhaust holes in the lower leading 
R  edge.

 

R B. Protection of the Wing Leading Edge (Ref. Fig. 006)
 When a pneumatic or anti-icing duct leak occurs, the pressure in the wing fixed leading edge bay(s) of the wing(s) increases. This continues until the rivets which attach the two angles of the landing shear. Then the trailing edge of the access panel moves and the air flows overboard.
 The pressure at which the rivets shear depend on:
 -
the shape and the size of the access panel,

 -
the number of rivets which hold the panel,

 -
the rivet shear strength.


 To shear the rivets, a pressure of approximately 0.48 bar (7 psi) is necessary. The adjacent skin structure is made to hold pressure of 1.03 bar (15 psi).
 If, after the access panel has 'blow down', a close inspection shows no damage, the panel and the landing can be used again. To install the access panel replace the attachment angle of the leading edge and the shear rivets.
R C. Protection of the Pylons (Ref. Fig. 002, 003) When a pneumatic duct in any area of the pylon breaks open or leaks, the pressure increases in this area. It continues up to a differential pressure of 0.20 bar (2.90 psi). This causes:
 -
the pressure to overcome the force of the spring on the doors 413BL and 432BL.

 -
the rivets to shear on the doors 471BL and 482BR.


 The doors open and stay open to allow the overpressure to flow overboard.
R D. Protection of the Nacelles (Ref. Fig. 004)
 When a pneumatic duct breaks open or has a large leak, the pressure in the nacelle zone increases. At a maximum differential overpressure of
 2.90 psi (0.20 bar) the door opens automatically and the overpressure decreases.


 INDICATING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

 General

_______ The indicating system shows the condition of the pneumatic system. It monitors the bleed air pressure and temperature (Ref. 36-21-00) and the position of the different valves. The indicating system also shows the bleed-air duct leaks that the leak detection system finds (Ref. 36-22-00). The primary indications are shown on the lower ECAM display unit (Ref. 31-67-00) and the upper ECAM display unit (Ref. 31-66-00). Indications are also shown on the AIR COND panel 30VU.
