(a)  A bulb type, tubular, silicone rubber seal is installed on the inboard side of the window frame on each control cabin window No. 2 (Fig. 3). The purpose of the seal is to prevent cabin pressurization loss around the sliding window. When the window is closed and latched and the control cabin is pressurized, the pressurization load on the windowpane is transmitted to the window frame which flattens the rubber seal against the window sill and provides a pressure seal around the window frame. When the control cabin is depressurized, the seal returns to its former shape and slides with the window frame when the window is opened and closed.

Fixed Pressure Seal

 (a)  Mylar tape is installed on window No. 2 around the entire periphery of the inboard windowpane. This is a fixed seal and its purpose is to pressure seal the windowpane to the sliding window frame (Fig. 3).
 B.  Bumper Strip
 (1)  The bumper strip is a wall of soft material bordering the perimeter of the outer windowpane on window No. 2 (Fig. 3). The bumper strip edge seals the interface surface between the outer glass pane and the vinly interlayer to prevent moisture penetration.

 C.  Sealant
 (1)  The sealant is an applied coating, integral with the bumper strip, on the surface of the window pane edge.
 3.  Window No. 2 Emergency Exit Release Mechanism_____________________________________________
 A.  The right sliding window is designed to be operated from outside the airplane as an emergency exit. An operator outside the airplane can pull the external release handle, unlock the sliding window and slide the window aft to provide an emergency exit from the control cabin. The right sliding window release mechanism consists of an external release handle, two interconnected bell cranks, two camshafts (the upper camshaft consists of an inner and outer camshaft) a lower cam, a lock plate and inside the window handle, a pin assembly which is actuated by an idler cam and upper cam (Fig. 4).
 B.  When the external release handle is pulled, it operates a bell crank which is connected by a turnbuckle to the spring-loaded lower camshaft. A pin projecting from the upper end of the lower camshaft engages a lower cam on the upper camshaft. Rotation of the lower camshaft is transmitted to the upper camshaft which rotates, causing its upper cam to bear on an idler cam and depress a pin assembly in the sliding window handle. This causes the trigger to press against the bolt and disengage the lock plate. Further pull on the release handle will cause the upper cam to push on the idler cam. The idler cam, being depressed to the maximum of its travel will then transmit further motion to the handle which engages the outer camshaft by means of serrations. This will cause the lower cam on the upper camshaft to override its top dead center and the window will be positioned inwards. The window now may be moved to the rear until the lower aft roller travels past the window open latch plate, which is spring-loaded to lock the window in the open position.
