If you used the plastic cleaner, flush the window with clean water and dry it with clean compressed air or a damp chamois.
(g)
Tape or spray a protective cover on the side of the window you will not polish.
E. Repair the Window

(1) If the window has superficial or minor scratches, do the steps that follow to repair the window:
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE AN OVERHEAT OF THE WINDOW WITH THE
_______ BUFFING WHEEL. IF THE WINDOW GETS TOO HOT IT CAN BECOME DAMAGED.
(a) Use your hand, approved cloths or a buffing wheel to polish the window with an approved polish.
NOTE: If you use the buffing wheel, be careful to not cause an
____ overheat of the window. To prevent this, keep the buffing wheel in constant motion on the window to keep the window surface temperature less than 125 to 130 degrees F. At this temperature, the window will not feel hot when you touch it with the back of your hand within 2 seconds of removing the buffing wheel from the windowpane.
Cloths which are satisfactory for hand polish are clean flannel or flannelette. Buffing wheels which are satisfactory are loosely stitched flannel or muslin.
(b) Measure the applicable dimensions on the window and compare them to the repair limits shown in Fig. 801.

(2) If the window has major scratches, do these steps to repair the window:
NOTE: Sand the window with your hand to remove buildup material on
____ major scratches. If you use a buffing wheel with an abrasive compound it can cause too much optical distortion. It is not recommended to use a vibrator with sandpaper because it can remove too much material from the window.
(a)
Soak the No. 400-A sandpaper in water for a few minutes.
(b)
Sand the window with the No. 400-A sandpaper and water.
NOTE: Wrap the paper around a rubber block that has a Shore
____ Type "A" durometer hardness of 35. If that is not available, you can use a wooden blocked wrapped with many layers of flannel.
If you sand an area approximately 4 inches in diameter, you can reduce optical distortion. You should rub the surface across the scratch at a 45 degree angle with light hand pressure.
Continue to sand the area until the scratch buildup material is removed.
(c) After the buildup material is removed, sand with No. 600 wet and dry sandpaper that has been soaked in water.
NOTE: This will reduce the sanding abrasions made with the
____
No. 400 wet and dry sandpaper.

(d) Apply Learock S-30 or its equivalent to a buffing wheel and buff the affected area until you remove all frosted finish.
NOTE: If you use the buffing wheel, be careful to not cause an
____ overheat of the window. To prevent this, keep the buffing wheel in constant motion on the window to keep the window surface temperature less than 125 to 130 degrees F. At this temperature, the window will not feel hot when you touch it with the back of your hand within 2 seconds of removing the buffing wheel from the windowpane.
After all frosted finish is removed, optical transparency occurs. When it is removed stop buffing with the Learock S-30. If you buff the area too much with the Learock S-30 you can cause optical distortion.
(e)
Use a buffing wheel and Learock 888 to polish the window surface to a high gloss.
(f)
Measure the applicable dimensions on the window and compare them to the repair limits shown in Fig. 801.

Apply one of the approved waxes to the window and lightly polish it with a flannel cloth.
