Measure the Operation Time of the Spoilers

 (1)  
Measure the operation time from the DN to the FLIGHT DETENT
 positions of the speed brake lever:

 (a)  
Make sure the aileron control wheel and the aileron trim are in the neutral position.

 (b)  
Quickly move the speed brake lever from the DN position to the FLIGHT DETENT position.

 (c)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 3, 4, 9 and 10 extend to the fully up position in less than 1 second.

 (d)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 5 thru 8 extend to the 20-degree position in less than 1 second.

 (2)  
Measure the operation time from the FLIGHT DETENT to the UP
 positions of the speed brake lever:

 (a)  
Quickly move the speed brake lever from the FLIGHT DETENT position to the UP position.

 (b)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 1, 2, 11 and 12 extend to the fully up position in less than 1 second.

 (c)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 5 thru 8 extend from the 20-degree position to the 45-degree position in less than 1 second.

 (3)  
Measure the operation time from the UP to the FLIGHT DETENT
 positions of the speed brake lever:

 (a)  
Move the speed brake lever from the UP to the FLIGHT DETENT position.

 (b)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 1, 2, 11 and 12 retract fully in less than 1 second.

 (c)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 5 and 8 retract from the 45-degree to the 20-degree position in less than 1 second.

 (d)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 6 and 7 retract from the 45-degree to the 20-degree position in less than 2.5 seconds.

 (4)  
Measure the operation time from the FLIGHT DETENT to the DN
 positions of the speed brake lever:

 (a)  
Move the speed brake lever from the FLIGHT DETENTto the DN position.

 (b)  
Make sure that the spoilers No. 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 move to the fully retracted position in less than 1 second.

 (c)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 6 and 7 move to the fully retracted position in less than 2.5 seconds.

 I. Measure the Friction in the Speed Brake System
 S 225-078
 (1)  
Measure the force necessary to move the speed brake lever:

 (a)  
Lift the speed brake lever straight up out of the DN detent.

 (b)  
Use the spring scale at the top of the speed brake lever to measure the force.

 (c)  
Make sure the force necessary to move the speed brake lever from the DN to the FLIGHT DETENT position is not more than 30 pounds.

 (d)  
Make sure the force necessary to move the speed brake lever from the FLIGHT DETENT to the UP position is not more than 30 pounds.

 NOTE: The force will decrease through the FLIGHT DETENT and
____
 increase aft of the detent.

 (e)  
Make sure the force necessary to move the speed brake lever from the UP to the FLIGHT DETENT position is not more than 25 pounds.
