 Move the spare dynamic-seal assembly up the inner cylinder into the offset in the lower centering cam.

 Move the lower bearing (6) up against the seal assembly and the bearing and centering cam together into the outer cylinder.

 NOTE: The lower centering cam must come out of the lower end of
____ the outer cylinder by 0.03 to 0.06 inch. Make sure you align the upper centering cam and the lower centering cam. The notched slot of the lower cam must be in-line with the lobe of the upper cam. If you do not correctly align the centering cams, you cannot make the conditions of step (23).

 (17) Move the gland nut (8) into a position to attach it to the outer cylinder.
 NOTE: If you have problems with the installation of the lower
____ bearing into the outer cylinder, do these steps. Align the inner cylinder. Put a wooden block of equal dimensions on the two sides of inner cylinder below the gland nut. Lift the inner cylinder until the gland nut touches the outer cylinder.

 Apply corrosion preventive compound to the threads on the gland nut and the outer cylinder.

 Tighten the gland nut to 175 - 200 foot-pounds.

 Apply the sealant.

 (a)  
Apply a bead of sealant around the outer cylinder of the shock strut and the gland nut.

 NOTE: Use a sealant gun for this.
____
 (b)  Use a spatula or the end of the sealant gun to make the fillet smooth.
 NOTE: When you make the fillet smooth, decrease the number of
____ air bubbles in the fillet as much as possible.
 NOTE: If the sealant bonds to the tool, apply a solution
____ of 15 to 20% isopropyl alcohol in distilled water to the tool. Use a polyethylene squirt bottle to apply the solution. This will prevent the contamination of the solution.
 (c)  Make the fillet a minimum of 0.08 inch thick at the interface of the gland nut and the shock strut. The fillet must extend 1/8 to 1/4 inch out on the gland nut and up the shock strut.
 NOTE: Make the fillet smooth immediately after you apply
____ the sealant. Do this because the fillet makes a skin a short time after it touches the air.
