Prepare for the Installation

 (1)  
Examine the structural attach points for worn parts
 (AMM 27-31-03/601, AMM 27-31-07/601).

 (a)  
Replace the part if it is damaged.

If a used bolt or bearing is used for the installation, make sure it is not a worn part.

Examine the condition of the seals at the stabilizer trailing edge.

Replace the seal if it is damaged.

Install the Inboard Elevator

 (1)  
Use the sling assembly to lift the inboard elevator to the
 horizontal stabilizer.

 (2)  
Install the inboard elevator:

 NOTE: The elevator nonreaction hinges (Fig. 402) must be installed

 in the sequence of 2, 1, 3, and 4.

 (a)  
Apply a thin layer of grease on the reaction hinge bolt (25).

 (b)  
Install the reaction hinge bolt (25), the washer (23), the outer nut (22) and the inner nut (21). 1) Tighten the outer nut (22) to a torque range of 1600-1700

 pound-inches plus run-on torque.

 (c) (d) (e) (f)  2) Tighten the inner nut (21) to a torque range of 500-700 pound-inches plus run-on torque.Apply a thin layer of grease on the bushings (7).Install the bushings (7).Install the lockwasher (5), the bolt (4), the washer (10) and the nut (9). 1) Tighten the nut (9) to a torque range of 290-410 pound-inches.If it is necessary, install the large washers (6) to keep a clearance of 0.01-0.06 inch.

 (3)  Remove the sling assembly: (a) Remove the sling attachment bolts. (b) Install four bolts at the hoist points.

 (5)  Connect the bonding jumpers (3) to the elevator nonreaction hinges No. 1, 2, 3, and 4. (a) Install the screw (19), the washers (17), (18), and (20), and the nut (16). (b) Tighten the nut (16).

 (6)  Connect the bonding jumper (26) to the actuator reaction hinge. (a) Install the screw (28), the washers (27), (29), and (30), and the nut (31). (b) Tighten the nut (31).

 (7)  Use the bonding meter to measure the electrical resistance of the bonding jumper connections. (a) Make sure that the electrical resistance of the bonding jumper connections is not more than 0.010 ohm.

 (8)  Move the inboard elevator to the full up and then to the full down position. (a) Make sure the elevator moves freely with a sufficient structural clearance.

Move the elevator to align the actuator lug with the actuator rod.

 Do these steps to connect the inboard elevator PCP actuator:

 (a)  
Apply a thin layer of grease to the actuator bolt (36).

 (b)  
Install the bushing (35).

 (c)  
Install the actuator bolt (36) with the head outboard.

 (d)  
Install the outer nut (34), the washer (33) and the inner nut (32). 1) Tighten the outer nut (34) to a torque range of 1700-1800

 pound-inches plus run-on torque. 2) Tighten the inner nut (32) to a torque range of 1500-1600 pound-inches plus run-on torque.
