APUs with S/N R770 and higher,
or
-
APUs with serial numbers less than S/N R770 and embodied AlliedSignal SB GTCP36-49-7064.
(1)
Remove the thermocouple probe which is installed approximately opposite to the surge bleed elbow (Ref. TASK 49-72-15-000-003).
(2)
Assemble the borescope 6/8/mm to the light source, Olympus 1LK-2.
(3)
Put the borescope through the thermocouple probe bore and make and an inspection of the turbine housing exhaust-diffuser.
(a) Damage or missing pieces are permitted in the area:
-from the half diameter of the exhaust thermocouple probe bosses to the turbine diffuser trailing edge,
-in the permitted area between any two thermocouple bosses.
NOTE : The damage usually occurs in front of the surge exhaust
____ elbow. If you find damage or missing pieces in the permitted area, make an entry in the applicable log that you must do this borescope inspection again after 175 APU hours. If you find damage in the area fwd of the half diameter of the thermocouple probe bosses, you must replace the APU.
(4)
Remove the borescope from the APU.
(5)
Install the thermocouple probe (Ref. TASK 49-72-15-400-001).

D. Inspection of the Thermocouple-Rake Attachment Positions

(1)
Clean the thermocouple rake attachment positions with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-004).
(2)
Make an inspection of the turbine plenum casing around the thermocouple-rake attachment positions as follows:
(a) Cracks which are longer than 50 % of the circumference of the thermocouple rake attachment positions are not permitted.

E. General Inspection of the Engine
(1)
Make an inspection of all welded, brazed or soldered assemblies. Make sure that they are attached correctly.
(2)
Make an inspection of all external surfaces. Make sure that they do not have a crack.
(3)
Make an inspection of all pipes. Make sure that they do not have kinks. Make sure that they do not have a crack, or are worn.
(4)
Make sure that there are no fuel or oil leaks.
(5)
Do a visual check of the fuel-filter differential-pressure indicator-button. Make sure that the indicator button is not extended. Replace the fuel filter if the indicator button is extended (Ref. TASK 49-32-11-210-001).
(6)
Do a visual check of the oil filter-bypass indicator-button (Ref. TASK 49-91-00-210-001).
(7)
Do a visual check of all brackets to make sure that they do not have a crack.
5. Close-up

(1)
Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tool(s) and other items.

Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s): 1KD, 2KD.

(1)
Start the APU (4005KM) (Ref. TASK 49-00-00-860-003).
(2)
Operate the APU (4005KM) for min. 5 minutes, inspect the APU for fuel, oil and air leaks.
