NORMAL CONTACTS FOR MIL CONNECTORS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General This chapter gives the connection procedure for Normal Contact used for MIL type Connectors. These contacts have the following codes:
-E0347
-E0374
-E0546 and E0547
-E0685
-NSA938159, NSA938160, NSA938167, NSA938168 and NSA938189
-NSA938164 and NSA938165 R - NSA938182 and NSA938183
-NSA938184 and NSA938185
-NSA938192.

A. Contact P/N and Characteristics

E0347DR0801 for sockets or E0347FR0801 for pins are size 8 contacts for
use 8 with size 8 wires and with size 10, 12 or 14 wires when using
reducers.
The wire size reducers can be installed in the contacts:
-
reducer NSA938186-03 for wire gauge 10.
-
reducer NSA938186-04 for wire gauge 12 or 14. Each contact has split ceramic retaining ring. This retaining ring is held on the contact by a silicone bushing. The retaining ring is installed on the contact after the contact has been installed in its housing. It prevents the contact from moving back when the connector is assembled.
B. Wire Stripping
(Ref. Fig. 001)
-Select the applicable tools
-Strip the wire to the length "A".

C. Crimping Procedure and Tools (Ref. Fig. 002)
(1)
The silicone bushing to push away the ceramic ring on the thinnest part of the contact.
(2)
Remove and keep the ceramic ring.
(3)
Engage the stripped wire in the contact.
(4)
Make sure that you can see the wire conductor through the contact hole.
(5)
Install the pin/socket contact in the positioner of the applicable tool.
(6)
Fully close the tool handles until the safety ratchet releases.
(7)
Remove the crimped contact from the tool.
(8)
Install the wire throught each items of the connector (Make sure that they are in the correct order). Check that each contact and its assigned wire are in the correct hole.

NOTE : Connectors shall have all their contacts, even if unwired. In this case, add a size 8 blanking plug E0616 (white) via the rear.
(9) Install the ceramic ring on the thinnest part of the contact.
(10)
Push the ceramic ring on the thickest part of the contact.
(11)
Push all contacts against rear insulator.
(12)
Position front insulator on rear insulator.
(13)
Bring all items into contact with each other.
(14)
Insert the assembly into the primary body of the shell, screw and
tighten backshell on the thread of the shell.
