____________________________________________REPAIR PROCESSES - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

The chapters that follow give the repair processes for the electrical elements installed on aircraft.

__________3. Check/Test
R R Each time a wire or other electrical item is added, repaired, disconnected/reconnected, before you do the close-up: - Do an inspection/check of the electrical items - Do an integrity test of the related system(s) if applicable (Ref AMM 05-51-43 P.Block 501). If there is no integrity test, do an operationnal or functionnal test of the related function(s).
R R R R R R R R R R R ____NOTE : When the customer adds an item on the aircraft, he will give it a number from 9000 to 9999. Example: Repair of the cables. - Step1: A FIN in the 9xxxVS series will identify the splice (for example 9001VS for the first splice that the customer installs on the aircraft). - Step 2: The customer will install a sleeve on each side of the splice with 9xxxVS series number printed on it, in accordance with the splice FIN. - Step 3: The customer will raise a Customer Originated Change (COC) to include the identified VS in the WDM (AWM/ASM/AWL).

ELECTRICAL CABLE REPAIR PROCESSES - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_______1. General
R R R R _______WARNING : MAKE SURE THAT NO AC OR DC POWER SOURCE IS CONNECTED TO THE AIRCRAFT ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS. THERE IS A RISK OF ELECTROCUTION IF THE AC OR DC POWER STAYS CONNECTED.
R R _______CAUTION : DO NOT USE THESE PROCESSES FOR THE CABLES IN HARNESSES (ENGINE, LANDING GEAR, FUEL TANKS, APU, ETC.) IDENTIFIED BY A PART NUMBER.
When a cable is damaged or broken, the standard procedure is to replace it with a cable that has the same P/N. The chapters that follow give the repair processes for the cables installed at different locations on the aircraft.
___________2. Terminology
R R R R R R R R Conductor: The conductor is the conducting element of the cable formed from one or more strands. Core: Assembly of a conductor and insulation which then form part of a complete single or multiconductor cable.
R R R Cable or wire: A cable is an assembly consisting of a conductor, insulation and, where applicable, a sheath, screen or jacket.
Standard cable: Cable with different protective layers (insulation or coating) but not screened.
Screened cable: Cable with one or several wires gathered and wound in a screen (metal braid or spiral strands) and a sheath.
Coaxial cable: Transmission line in which one conductor is centered inside and insulated from an outer metal screen that serves as the second conductor.

R R R RR Transmission line in which four cores are positioned around a centered filler and insulated from an outer metal screen that served as the fifth conductors. Thermocouple cable : Cable with a special conductor to measure temperatures.
Fire- resistant cable: Cable with special protective layers to protect the cable against very high temperatures.
R R EFCS (Electrical Flight Control System) cables: EFCS harnesses are identified clearly at each end with pink labels E0248 printed in black. EFCS specific equipment and electrical standard items are identified with pink placards.
R R Sensitive cables: Each cable is identified with pink sleeves adjacent to the connections. In the WDM, these cables are identified with letter "S".
____________3. Repair steps
_______CAUTION : BE CAREFUL IF THE DAMAGED CABLE IS A SENSITIVE CABLE OR AN EFCS CABLE. THE REPAIR CLASSIFICATION (GRADE) CAN BE DIFFERENT.
