F. Leading Edge Slat Proximity Sensor Installation
SUBTASK 27-88-11-420-001
(1) Do these steps to install the inboard proximity sensor [4]:
(a) Apply a thin coat of compound, C00913 to the threads of the bolts [5] or [6].
(b) For slat No. 1 or 8, install the bolts [5], washers [7], shim [3], spacer [1] and nuts [8].
(c) For slats No. 2, 3, 6 or 7, install the bolts [6], washers [7], shim [3], spacer [2] and nuts [8].
(d) For slat No. 4 or 5, install the bolts [15], washers [7] shim [3] and nuts [8].
1) Find the same color wires and make a splice.
(e) Attach the wires together to make a bundle.

(2) Install the outboard proximity sensor [4].
(a) Apply a thin coat of compound, C00913 to the threads of the bolts [16].
(b) Install the bolts [16], washers [7], shim [3] and spacer [1].
(c) Find the same color wires and make a splice.
(d) Attach the wires together to make a bundle.

(3) Do these steps to install the retract proximity sensor [24]:

(a) Apply a thin coat of compound, C00913 to the pilot diameter and fay surface of the retract
proximity sensor [24].
(b) Install the retract proximity sensor [24] with fasteners [25].
(c) Connect the electrical connector to the retract proximity sensor [24].
(d) Install the slat actuator door [23] to the slat actuator;
1) Remove the nuts [22], washers [21] and bolts [20] that attach the bracket to the slat
actuator.
a) If there are three washers installed on the bolts [20], discard the thicker aluminum
washer.
2) Put the slat actuator door [23] in its position on the slat actuator.
3) Install bolts [20], washers [21] and nuts [22] that attach the slat actuator door [23] and
the bracket to the slat actuator.
4) Install the bolts [17], washers [18] and nuts [19] that attach the slat actuator door [23] to
the slat actuator.

(4) With the leading edge slat in the full extend position, make sure the gap between the outboard
proximity sensor [4] and the target [9] is 0.115-0.135 inch (2.92-3.43 millimeters).
(a) If the gap is out of tolerance, adjust the gap between the proximity sensor [4] and the target
[9].
1) Remove the bolts [16], washers [7], shim [3] and spacer [1].
2) Add or remove shim [3] as it is necessary to get the correct gap between the proximity
sensor [4] and the target [9].
3) Install the bolts [16], washers [7], and spacer [1].
(b) Bond shims [3] and spacer [1] to the bracket with adhesive, A00165.

WARNING: REMOVE THE LOCK FROM LEADING EDGE FLAP ACTUATOR CAREFULLY TO
PREVENT ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS. THE LEADING
EDGE FLAPS CAN MOVE QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONNEL,
AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(5) Remove the lockout set, SPL-1734 from the actuators of the leading edge flap and slats. To do
this, do this task: Leading Edge Flap and Slat Locks Removal, TASK 27-81-00-080-801.

WARNING: MAKE SURE PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS
AND SLATS AND THE TRAILING EDGE FLAPS. THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND
SLATS AND THE TRAILING EDGE FLAPS CAN MOVE QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE
INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(6) Retract the leading edge slat to the 1-unit detent position with primary control. To do this, do this
task: Leading Edge Flaps and Slats Retraction, TASK 27-81-00-860-804.

WARNING: MAKE SURE TO INSTALL THE LEADING EDGE FLAP AND SLAT ACTUATORS
LOCKOUT SET TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE LEADING EDGE
FLAPS AND SLATS. THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS CAN MOVE QUICKLY.
THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
