CONTROL SURFACES, THE THRUST REVERSERS, AND THE LANDING GEAR.
THESE COMPONENTS CAN MOVE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC
POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(a) To pressurize hydraulic system B, do this task: Hydraulic System A or B Pressurization,
TASK 29-11-00-860-801.
(b) Move the flap control lever to the 10-unit detent position to extend the slat actuator [40] to
the full extend position.
(c) To remove power from hydraulic system B, do this task: Hydraulic System A or B Power
Removal, TASK 29-11-00-860-805.

(10) Do a check of the mismatch between the hole in the actuator rod end and the hole in the inboard
lug:
(a) Use the gage assembly, which is part of the kit, SPL-1739, to make sure the actuator end
fitting [45] is extended 0.0050-0.1000 inch (0.13-2.54 millimeters) farther than the lug [44] on
the leading edge slat [31].
NOTE: It is not necessary to take any measurements when using the gage assembly.
(b) If the actuator end fitting [45] is not extended 0.0050-0.1000 inch (0.13-2.54 millimeters)
farther than the lug [44], adjust the downstop [52] on the main tracks [51];
NOTE: The downstop [52] has three positions. The position with one mark facing the
track has the least preload, the position with three marks has the most preload.
The position with two marks is the nominal position.
1) Get access to the downstop [52] through the access holes in the ribs aft of the aft track
rollers.
2) Loosen the nut [54] on the bolt [53].
3) Turn the downstop [52] to adjust the position of the leading edge slat [31].
4) Tighten the nut [54] to 50 in-lb (5.6 Nm) to 80 in-lb (9.0 Nm) or the bolt [53] to 72 in-lb
(8.1 Nm) to 88 in-lb (9.9 Nm).
NOTE: Hold the bolt head while you tighten the nut to prevent downstop rotation. The
recommended procedure is to tighten the nut. The optional procedure is to
tighten the bolt.

(11) Use hydraulic power to retract the slat actuator [40] to the extend position:
NOTE: This will permit you to install the bolt [50].

(12) Connect the slat actuator [40] to the leading edge slat [31]:
(a) Move the leading edge slat [31] until it aligns with with the slat actuator [40].
(b) Install the bushing [41], bolt [50], washer [49], washer [42] and nut [43] to attach the slat
actuator [40] to the leading edge slat [31].
NOTE: The head of the bolt [50] must be on the outboard side of the slat actuator [40].
(c) Tighten the nut [43] to 660-980 pound-inches (74.6-110.7 newton-meters) or the bolt [50] to
882-1078 pound-inches (99.7-121.8 newton-meters).
NOTE: The recommended method is to tighten the nut.
The optional method is to tighten the bolt.
(d) Install the bolt retainer [48];
1) Apply compound, C00528 to the shank and threads of the bolts [46].
2) Install the bolts [46] and washers [47] to attach the bolt retainer [48].

(13) Install the slat actuator door [39] on the slat actuator [40]:
(a) Put the slat actuator door [39] in its position on the slat actuator [40].
(b) Remove the bolts [32], washers [33] and nuts [34] that attach the bracket to the slat actuator
[40].
1) If there are three washers installed on the bolts [32], discard the thicker aluminum
washer.
(c) Put the slat actuator door [39] in its position on the slat actuator [40].
(d) Install the bolts [32], washers [33] and nuts [34] that attach the slat actuator door [39] and
bracket to the slat actuator [40].
(e) Install the bolts [35], washers [36], washers [37] and nuts [38] that attach the slat actuator
door [39] and the bracket to the slat actuator [40].
G. Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition

WARNING: CAREFULLY REMOVE THE LEADING EDGE SLAT ACTUATOR LOCKOUT SET FROM
THE LEADING EDE SLATS. THE LEADING EDGE SLATS CAN MOVE QUICKLY. THIS
CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Do this task: Leading Edge Flap and Slat Locks Removal, TASK 27-81-00-080-801.
