CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE INBOARD FAN DUCT COWL AND THE INBOARD AND OUTBOARD
THRUST REVERSERS ARE CLOSED OR REMOVED BEFORE YOU EXTEND THE
LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS. THERE IS NOT SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE FOR
THE FLAPS AND SLATS TO EXTEND IF THE INBOARD FAN DUCT COWL AND THE
INBOARD AND OUTBOARD THRUST REVERSERS ARE IN THE OPEN POSITION. THIS
CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(5) Move the flap control lever to the 10-unit position to move the leading edge slats to the full
extend position.

WARNING: MAKE SURE TO INSTALL THE LEADING EDGE SLAT ACTUATOR LOCKOUT SET TO
PREVENT ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE LEADING EDGE SLATS. THE LEADING
EDGE SLATS CAN MOVE QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND
DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(6) Install the lockout set, SPL-1734 on the adjacent leading edge slats. To install the lockout set, do
this task: Leading Edge Flap and Slat Locks Installation, TASK 27-81-00-480-801.

(7) Move the flap control lever to the 1-unit position to move the leading edge slat to the extend
position.
NOTE: If the slat is in the full extend position, the actuator [1] will be preloaded against the slat.
F. Leading Edge Slat Actuator Removal
SUBTASK 27-81-41-020-002
(1) Remove the slat actuator door [3] from the slat actuator assembly [2]:
(a) Remove the bolts [14], washers [15], washers [16] and nuts [17] that attach the slat actuator
door [3] and clamp [52] to the slat actuator assembly [2].
(b) Remove the bolts [4], washers [5] and nuts [6] that attach the slat actuator door [3] and the
bracket [32] to the slat actuator assembly [2].
(c) Remove the slat actuator door [3].
(d) Temporarily install the bolts [4], washers [5] and nuts [6] to attach the bracket [32] to the
slat actuator assembly [2].

(2) To remove power from hydraulic system B, do this task: Hydraulic System A or B Power
Removal, TASK 29-11-00-860-805.

(3) Remove the dropout links [7]:
(a) Remove the pin [13], nuts [12], washers [11], washers [9], bolts [8] and bushings [10].
(b) Remove the dropout links [7].

(4) Disconnect the slat actuator assembly [2] from the leading edge slat [1]:
(a) Remove the bolt retainer [23] from the leading edge slat [1]:
1) Remove the bolts [21] and washers [22] that attach the bolt retainer [23] to the leading
edge slat [1].
2) Remove the bolt retainer [23] from the leading edge slat [1].
(b) Remove the nut [19], washer [20], washer [24], bolt [25] and bushing [18].

(5) Manually move the leading edge slat [1] to the full extend position while you hold the slat
actuator assembly [2].

(6) Let the slat actuator assembly [2] hang from the support fitting [46].

(7) Remove the slat actuator assembly [2]:
(a) Disconnect the hydraulic lines [29], [30] or [53], [54] with [40] and [41]:
NOTE: The hydraulic lines [29], [30] or [53], [54] with [40] and [41], bracket [32] and
clamps [26] and [36] are removed from the airplane with the slat actuator
assembly [2].
1) Disconnect the hydraulic lines [29], [30] or [53], [54] with [40], [41] from the swivels [31].
2) Install caps on the swivels [31].

3) Install plugs in the open ends of the hydraulic lines [29], [30] or [53], [54] with [40] and
[41].
(b) Remove the nut [47] and washer [48] from the bolt [44].
(c) Hold the slat actuator assembly [2] while you remove the bolt [44], washer [45] and bushing
[43].
(d) Remove the slat actuator assembly [2] from the airplane.

(8) If it is necessary, remove the hydraulic lines [29], [30] or [53], [54] with [40], [41] and bracket [32]
from the slat actuator assembly [2]:
(a) Disconnect the hydraulic lines [29], [30] or [53], [54] with [40], [41] from the slat actuator
assembly [2].
(b) Remove the nuts [6], washers [5] and bolts [4] that attach the bracket [32] to the slat
actuator assembly [2].
(c) On slat 1, remove the nut [28] and bolt [27] and the clamps [26] that attach hydraulic lines
[29] and [30] to the slat actuator assembly [2].
