4) Operate the stabilizer system through 5 full cycles.
NOTE: You will need to use the control wheel switches to move the stabilizer since
the stab trim control wheel chain has been disconnected.
5) Put the cables at the center of the forward cable drum.
6) Do the following to verify that the stabilizer trim cable tension is correct:
a) Use the 40 - 600 lb cable tensiometer, COM-1554 or 40 - 600 lb cable tensiometer,
COM-1554 to make sure the cable tension is the same as the tension in (Table 501).
b) If the cable tension is not correct, adjust the lower turnbuckle [9] to get the correct
cable rigging tension shown in (Table 501).
7) Make sure that the lower turnbuckle [9] length is 11.00 in. (279.4 mm) -- 15.25 in.
(387.3 mm) after the adjustment.
8) Make sure that the horizontal stabilizer moves freely through the full travel to the
airplane nose down limit.

(2) Adjust the chain [10] movement:
(a) Install the chain [10] over the two idler sprockets [11] and forward mechanism sprocket
[12].
(b) Install the pins [14] on the outboard side to connect the chain [10].
(c) Apply a 5 lbf (22.2 N) force at approximately 4.5±1.0 inches (114 ±25 mm) from where the
chain [10] touches the forward mechanism sprocket [12].
(d) Make sure the movement of the chain [10] is 0.25 ±0.07 in. (6.4 ±1.8 mm).
(e) If it is necessary, adjust the forward support link [1] and aft support link [7] to get the correct
chain movement.
(f) Measure the eyebolt thread extensions or "A" dimension to adjust the aft support link [7]
and forward support link [1] for the correct chain movement.
1) Measure the eyebolt thread extensions (Figure 501):
a) On the forward support link [1], measure the length of the eyebolt thread extension
[16] above the upper adjusting nut [15].
b) On the aft support links [7], measure the length of the eyebolt thread extension [20]
below the upper adjusting nuts [18].
c) Make sure that the lengths of the two aft eyebolt thread extensions [20] and the one
forward eyebolt thread extension [16] are in ±0.12 inch (±3.1 mm) of each other
(Figure 501) (Views A-A and B-B).
2) Measure the "A" dimensions of the aft support links [7] and forward support link [1]
(Figure 501):
NOTE: The "A" dimension is the measurement of the aft support links and forward
support link between two connections.
